Mardi Gras fun

Last year it was an outdoor parade.

This year I found some friends to play with, and we performed for four hours inside a former vintage warehouse rehabbed into a great multi- floor, multi-venue destination restaurants & bars.

Here's a still:

those pants at a thrift at least two years ago (very small).Located purple fabric for the side strips, sut the strips. Lost thestrips (I moved last year). Found the strips. Sewed the strips in,discovered they were a couple inches too short, dug through scraps tofind leftovers from my other gold sparkly top (it came with longsleeves). Finished the pants about an hour before the gig. (Manycompliments from the spectators.) Hard to tell...this gold top has purple and green masks sewn on it. That was a trip: put on top, put on sousaphone. Arrange masks, pin. Remove horn, reposition masks. Sew. (Start with the eyeholes, it works better.) My house has a low clearance so I had to move carefully.

The bell cover is the one I made a few years ago. More rave reviews. No one threw stuff at me this year.

One of the building floors had a gumbo cook-off, and my police department's decorated table had those little MG flags. One of them somehow attached itself to the horn.

The large green beads flash (little batteries) and I'm wearing a MG flag as a cape. My music pards didn't believe me when I mentioned the velcro-on water bottle holder. (I need a MG water bottle. Found some on Oriental Trading, but I don't need a dozen of them.)

As we convened, the guys were impressed. They thought I'd been up all night preparing this outfit and accessorries. (Not shown: my gold MG slippers, MG-striped socks. Hard to see: my MG word earrings.)

Here's some hard-to-see live action, but the audio is pretty good.

Very cool! I love the water bottle and the fleur d'li (not sure about the spelling) pants!

That is an outstanding outfit! And you all look & sound like you're having a fantastic time. Although most of my siblings live in the new Orleans area and some have participated in M G parades & parties over the past 50 years, I have never gone or had any desire to go there during M G, because of my intense discomfort in crowds. Wonderful stuff! Not only the Mardi Gras, either. Thanks for sharing with us. I've bookmarked it for later, so I can take my time looking, oohing & aahing over it. Emily
