Should I? (Help)

Well, the eco fabric online shop has an advent calendar and today they offer you 25 % off one (1) fabric of your choice. So, I have been pondering to make DH a blazer, jacket or whatever you call it as a long term project. I have had this fabric in mind

|W11-002|W11-001& but of course it is soooo expensive. Yes, good quality, eco stuff, Italian design, and just what looks perfect on my DH. I thought that I might need about 3 m of it, probably more like 3.5, to match the pockets etc. (If I do it I'll do it properly and if it takes me ages!) The regular price would be ? 276.15 but they have a 10 % discount for orders worth more than ? 200.00. If I subtract the 25 % the 3.5 m would cost me about ? 186.41. Still a steep price and all the notions, lining etc. are not included, and it would tear an ugly hole in my current budget. On the other hand, the product will, if all goes well, a timeless classic and finally a jacket that fits in all the critical places, and I will learn a lot.

Do you think I should order or not? Please, help me make up my mind (and I have to order today, otherwise the 25 % discount will be gone).

Probably you should, Ursula. Twice back when I was a career person I bought fabric that was so expensive it just staggered me. Twice I made suits (jacket and skirt). It did indeed take a lot of time, did challenge me to the point that my hands shook the first time I began to cut into it. Those suits, for 15 or 20 years were things of beauty. When we retired, I passed them on to someone who could continue to enjoy them. My only warning would be to choose a style that will be classic and to test that pattern on something lovely that isn't quite so scary-priced. Go for it. Polly

Too late... I had to go and see my mom yesterday afternoon, and then we all got into a terrible fight about... Well, the situation with my mother's health issue is getting on everybody's nerves, so those who have a more peppery temper (like my dad and I) are prone to lapses in manners. Anyway, I drove home in tears of anger and frustration and forgot about the fabric. Now it's too late, but perhaps they have another offer that enables me to get the desired tweed. If not - I'm pretty certain DH is NOT pining for another jacket. He's not the dressy kind (fortunately-alas) and there's a good reason Kate calls him Eric the Viking. ;-)

He's lovely. Just a bit woolly at times! ;)

Chin up: things are bound to be almost impossible at the moment. Just give yourselves permission to be a bit short in patience and temper. Kiss and make up later. Under it all, you all know the reason and can forgive.

Done already. DM had a very bad night the night before with short breath and pain in her leg. She called early in the morning to ask if I could call the specialist which of course I did - plus a score of other related phone calls. DF didn't have any objections, so, on my side, everything was forgiven and forgotten. On Sunday, I was just so scared that in his attempt to keep the reins he would prevent an optimal care for DM. And while I was there last night, he gave me a pat on the should and some kind words, and for my DF that is quite a lot. I mean, you can't bake 'em yourself, can you? And time is getting short so I won't waste any in grudging about people's character when I can't change it.

Anyway, the specialist said that the GP should first look after DM, and in his opinion the shortage of breath might very well have something to do with her Atrial fibrillation (after I mentioned this to her, she later told that this indeed was happening at the time). The GP, during who's visit I was present, said that the thing with her leg was the the metastasis in her groin probably blocked on the lymphatic flow and that she should rest with her leg up. He prescribed an orthopaedic device which I'll go and get later today. He also took blood samples for which it would have been the regular time anyway.

To relax the situation in my parents' home, I'll suggest to them to get meals-on-wheels so that my DM doesn't have to get up to cook for DF (yes, he's really old school, my DF; as long as she can stir a limb he cannot quite see why she can't get up and spend an hour or two in the kitchen now and then).

Well, we'll have to see how things go, but for now I have to close this. DD is up and I'm not sure if she'll be fit to go to Kindergarten; she had a rather high fever yesterday, bad enough for the ladies there to ask me to pick her up early. When she came home, she fell asleep and was rather OK after that. I have to take her temperature, but to me she sound quite fine.

Thank you for your kind words!

Hey, at least there is some good news! Do you remember the fabric with the serious discount I missed? Today the Advent calendar of that store held the 'missed door' door, so I just bought my fabric for the desired price. Well, you have to cling to the small things if the big ones fail you. ;-)

My prayers are with you and your family, Ursula, at this time of the year, in particular. When things get tough, just remember to take a deep breath and relax for a few minutes.

People, who are truly your friends, know & love you, and will not be the least bit offended if the cards, gifts, etc. are not done right on time. Other people don't matter anyway.

I am very happy you were able to find & get the fabric you wanted. It can relax a while in your stash till you have time to sew it.
