skirt, again

Ok, this time the date is set correctly on the computer.

I shortened the gored skirt at the bottom and it turned out ok. Next time I'll follow the pieces for view c (don't know why I didn't think of that). The problem with the skirt was lack of material. I purchased the pattern and material without following my "current" measurements. The fabric was clearance cotton for a summer skirt, so no big deal.

The new question pertains to a linen type stash fabric . Of course there's not enough to follow a skirt pattern. I was thinking of running a seam and adding elastic for a simple skirt. My question is, can I do this with one seam at the back or should I have two side seams. On one hand I'm thinking it doesn't matter, but on the other hand, I'm thinking side seams will give it some structure.

Thanks again for all your help, Suzanne

Dear Suzanne

I have virtually no waistline, so I do this all the time. Just cut the skirt piece to your hip measurement, plus at least 1-1/2 inches ease, plus seam allowance. Then run an elastic around the top.

Now, if you're real curvy, two seams would be better. Just be sure to use your hip measurement, as above, plus seam allowances, to cut.

I did a skirt like this a while back. I only did a center back seam, but I did put darts at the back too. Also it had a drawstring waist. Long skirt with a slit at the CB from hem to just above my knees. Really comfy! And cute too. So you can do it either way, it's really up to you what you think would look best.
