Whassamatta, Kate?

You said you are in to much pain to care. Is it the fibro acting up, or something else? I noticed you hadn't been posting lately.

I had just got over my usual January bronchitis, then caught another cold, so I am back on the superpower antibiotics plus antihistamines again (to prevent it from getting worse). Between that and trying to coordinate the care for Auntie Em in Yorkshire, I haven't even LOOKED at a needle recently.

What's wrong, luv? Cry on the shoulders here.

Fibro. Pissing me off seriously at the moment. Making sewing hard to get to and difficult to do. I'm trying NOT to dwell on it and take it out on others, but I've spent the last week on pain killers, and may have to pester the quack for summat stronger. I *DO NOT* want to got back on the liver-rotting mind numbing amytripteline (or however you spell it), so I'm grumpy - with me and the world!

((((((Olwyn Mary)))))) I had two severe colds in the autumn, and ended up on antibiotics when it settled into my sinuses as a secondary infection, complete with killer slugs in tackety boots kango-hammering their way round my head! I'm also worried about DH, who caught James's half term cold, and it's settled on his chest... Some years ago this happened, and he ended up doubled over in agony every time he coughed, with stabbing pains in chest and back. He *thought* he'd 'only pulled a muscle with the coughing', until I pointed out that one generally did not do this, and a cough that severe merited a trip to the quack, as, for all I knew, he might have pneumonia! When he came back very subdued with a large prescription for antibiotics and a diagnosis of bronchial pneumonia, all the sympathy he got from me was 'I'm not in the least surprised! Go to bed!' He's got an appointment tomorrow about his latest set of blood test results (for the diabetes), so he'll give him the cough to look at then, too. But I'm a little concerned as our quack isn't given to unnecessary appointment calling.

Sewing room also a mess, as was the rest of the house. I'm getting to it! But I have a couple of projects I REALLY want to work on, and cannot even SEE them for the piles of STUFF! GRRR!

I'm going back into lurk mode before I bite someone else! I've just written a snotty letter to Kent County Council about James's school transport, asking why it took them SIX MONTHS to decide he was eligible for free transport to school because part of the supposedly safe route he'd have to walk is too dangerous even if accompanied by an adult! I had to point out to them that in the 22 years we've lived here we've had to mop up a pile of serious RTA's outside our door, various less severe ones (including one involving Cornflake and one involving a friend of mine and a bus!). We get articulated lorries (44 toners) up this country lane, going to and from the fruit stores, combine harvesters, large tractors pulling loads of grain and/or manure for the fields, lost Romanian/Italian/Dutch lorries trying to find Dover/Maidstone/Sheppy/the M2 motorway/the M20 motorway, prats in SUV's trying to avoid the middle of town and driving too fast for country lane that has stretches of single track with passing places, and local traffic that knows the road well enough to drive at a moderate speed, thus ensuring that the prats try to overtake them on awkward corners! AAARRRGGGHHH! MOST of the time it's very peaceful, but we get spurts of traffic insanity between 7 and 9 in the morning (the bus into town is at 8, naturally!), and between 4 and 7 in the evening (and the bus coming home drops him at the door at 20 past 4!). Unfortunately there's never a sufficient stream of traffic for it to all slow down to 30 miles an hour, and a lot of the prats try to do 60 because it's derestricted (max speed 60).

So, to get him to school we have shelled out £199.80 for a lad entitled to free transport! I'm trying to claw some of it back, but it rankles!

OK, rants over! But you can see why I'm grumpy at the moment!

Kate,

DSIL has fibro. She says there are two kinds of days: bad, and worse. It must be horribly depressing to feel bad all the time. You're entitled to be grumpy; wish we could do something to help.

Hi Kate & Olwyn Mary,

Hugs to both of you, there is nothing worse than feeling ill too ill to the stuff you *want* to do, especially if (like most of us and Kate like all mothers) you end up using your scant reserves doing the stuff you

*have* to do. I hope you both feel better soon, maybe the lengthening days will help with that too.

DH and I have both had the flu-type bug that has been making much of the UK miserable recently. That was a lovely treat for while the boys were off school for a week at half term :( Back on my feet now and sewing again.

Hugs

You are doing something: being here! :) ANYTHING that takes my mind off it is good - even root canal work would be welcome! ;)

James had that one over half term, and gave it to Alan, who seems to have been very generous with it in Peterborough, as most of the office now have it! It's a very nasty bug that has them all wobbly and running temperatures!

So far I have escaped it, but whether I'd notice I had it al all this week... ;)

For the less informed:

Some of these articles may say CFS or Lupus. The symptoms of CFS and FMS are pretty similar so these articles apply to FMS as well.

is another article I read lately in which the long term implications are very disturbing. I can't even bring myself to post a link. Another member of the FMily. AK in PA

This is a bad year for the lung ick. I think I now have Return of the Son of the Zombie lung infection. Either that or the dreaded Lurgi...,

All, I had both a flu and a pneumonia shot this year and I haven't had so much as a sniffle. I've been trying to keep the sinuses moving by using a spray saline solution. So far it's been working too. I've never blown my nose so much unless I've been very ill with infected sinuses or a flu. It's so nice being able to breathe. AK in PA

I tend to keep away from stuff like that! Too depressing when the fibro is depressing enough by itself! And every person is different. I am VERY well off by comparison to some, and do not allow it to restrict what I do, for the most part. I swim regularly (50 or more lengths of the pool twice a week - more if I can get there), and I walk and take the stairs when I can. What with that and the weight loss, I'm actually at my fittest for 20 years! BUT there are good days and bad days, good weeks and bad weeks, and you never know what you'll get until it happens.

The truly frustrating thing is that I probably set this week off myself, pushing my friend Julie round Bluewater in her wheelchair last Thursday! I should have known better and taken things a bit easier, but we had a great day, and it was well worth it! But there's no real knowing - most of last week was as bad, and then I hadn't been shoving Julie about...

Thank you all for your concern and good wishes. They are much appreciated, and keep me going on darker days.

If you break out in purple and green spots, it's Lurgi, and you are doomed to a multi-coloured existence forever... Otherwise it's the zombi lung infection, so trot it back to the quack for another round of Auntie's favourite bio tricks! ((((((Wendy))))))

Alan had his flu shot, but still has this evil infection. Fingers are crossed that the quack (actually our very nice Dutch doc) sorts him out this morning.

Now.. don't get grossed out...I have a water-pick type of device designed for "nasal irrigation." Takes a bit to get used to but wow, it really helps. Gets stuff out of the upper sinus and flushes out pollen, dust, etc. =20
