bra-making fabric store in East Bay?

Does anyone remember there having been a store in the San Francisco Bay Area East Bay that specialized in fabrics and supplies for bra-making? I remember one having been in the Alameda/Emeryville or maybe San Leandro kind of area, but can't find it in the yellow pages.

Thx, Pora

I think they may have an ad in Threads magazine. I'll look through a few issues to see if I can find the address. (I'm in Alameda.)

DH and I went through a few years of Threads to no avail. I'll be in Berkeley tomorrow so I will ask at Stonemountain and Daughters.

No, but if you find one, please do post! I'm over the hill in Concord.

In Thread's archives, there should be the article about making bras, The Bra Dilemma. I have a printed copy, if you can not find it. If someone wants a copy, I will be glad to share. Please contact me personally. Emily

It wouldn't be Britex, would it?

I asked at Stonemountain today. They could only suggest Lacis in Berkeley. But searching on the internet I found bramakers.com which seems to have a pretty good catalog.

Well, thanks everyone for trying. It was probably ten years ago that I talked to them on the phone, so they must have closed. I'll consider Britex a back-up, since my success rate there is kind of low. Plenty of supplies available on the net.

Laci's might be hopeful, but isn't bramakers.com in Canada?

I have shopped at

for a long time, and the owner answers questions on the newsgroups periodically. She's a good egg. But if I could find someplace local, I sure would like to see some of this stuff in person before making a purchase selection.

I have found a few more sources besides for bramaking supplies and fabrics, too. (Booby Traps seems to offer kits with color-matched laces!)

I only mentioned Britex because it was the only place I could think of in SF. :) Lacis charges way too much for bra and corset making supplies IMO but I have a great appreciation for their work. I have also purchased supplies from:

Greenburg & Hammer in NY

Farthingales is one of my favorites but stays are their bailiwick. I have not tried this one yet:

Great list! Thanks again, Pora. I seem to recall Kieffers previously being one of the rare sources for coutil (for corsets).

By the way, at the dancesport website it helps to search for "mesh." It turns up lots more colors than just "powernet."

Thanks for the pointers too. By the way, does anyone know what milliskin is? I assume it's a finer version of moleskin, but can't really imagine it. Is it appropriate for bras? (Stretchhouse has a beautiful selection of colors.)

This one is apparently an expired domain. Is it spelled correctly?

Farthingales is in Canada, and their website is
