PHOTO OF THE WEEK, Tailoring

Ever wonder why a well made gentleman's jacket looks so good on men who may not make much impression in a bathing suit?

Ever wonder what is inside one or why those who can afford them are willing to pay several thousand dollars for one?

I can't say that I ever did but after I decided that eating my sheep was out of the question, I found out the hard way.

Jack, it's beautiful! Well done! :) I made my hubby a suit a few years back, out of venetian cloth from a factory making for Daks, so I know how much work is involved in just the making. I'm not yet ready to start with a field of sheep!

I might even believe you bought a horse for the hair canvas... ;)

Wow, that brings back memories! I made my DH a tailored three-piece suit in the early 80s. I bought several books on

*real* tailoring, as I had never done a man's suit before, the difference in constructing a man's suit and a woman's is very different. I was intrigued by all the hand padding stitches it took.

Have you attempted pants yet (welt pockets, and that special waistband)? ;-)

Congratulations, your jacket looks wonderful.

Actually, I have and it is really fun and satisfying. Another learning experience which does not make much sense at first. I have only used rummage sale fabric that Marilyn finds now and then. Not sure that homespun would make a wearable pair of pants.

Thanks for the kind words.

Thanks but I am not sure what I would do if my draft didn't fit well. The fitting part is where I really need some help as the interactiions between different pieces make me hesitant to change anything.

I need some quality time with a real tailor to understand this aspect.
