American Woodmaster lathe

Know little else 'cept it has 42" between centers. Any one know of this lathe, a friend got it at a garage sale, never used it, still boxed up. He asked if I was interested.....he is to find out more ...soon...... Thanks

I've never heard of such a brand. My opinion, is that if your friend bought it at a garage sale, and it's STILL boxed up (presuming the original owner never opened the box), then noone ever thought too much of it. Which probably means that it's an off-brand 'cheapie'. Noone in their right mind would purposely pay good money for a good lathe, and then never even take it out of the box.

But, I'm presuming too much. It might be OK - looking that the physical quality of the lathe and specs would do better in evaluating this thing.

Brent,

I have a brand new Vicmarc still in the box. I think I bought it 3-5 years ago. I must be in my left mind.

How 'bout that.... I wish that I could be fortumate enough to be in that situation, cm. Maybe just me, but if I pay good money on something, I'm going to make sure that I start using it right away.

Brent,

I have owned and used many lathes from an old Craftsman tube lathe to a 48" home built bowl lathe with Vicmarcs and Woodfasts in between. I had just ordered the Vicmarc when I discovered my first vintage travel trailer. I have fallen head over heels for old birch interior trailers. The Vicmarc was put to the side so I could follow my new vintage trailer passion, which has no turned into a business. The trailer hobby/business has been way more profitable than any of my other woodworking ventures.

I will keep the Vicmarc just in case I get the turning itch again.

Have fun,

Craig
