cad programs

Has anyone used or experienced any cad programs for designing items to turn on the lathe.

I was thinking it would be great to design the item on the computer and then , for using in a copy lathe, print it out and transfer to a cardboard to place in the copy machine.

Any thoughts or experiences.

Im curious to see if people have used a program and what they used.

Computer aided design? Copy lathe! Why that would be cheating! Artists such as ourselves would never stoop to such a vile trick! Next thing you know, you'll be using CAM and mass producing items! *G*

Not exactly. My experience was to scan on the laser scanner a template of a flat part from Manufacturing,(Strippit punch presses) and compare to the CAD Drawings for verification of tolerances. I can use the "Virtek" laser scanner to make a .dxf and .dwg files of a part and save for later use though. Our CAD program is SolidWorks, sometimes older prints are still in AutoCad lite. As for drafting a CAD program, I don't have that much talent or experience with the software.

I use Quickcad. It's made by Autodesk and will work with .cad or .dwg drawings. Its a pretty good program. I use it in conjuction with Woodturner Pro, so no, I dont do the transfer/copy thing. If I want to copy it, I just make it twice.
