I am looking for a wood burning unit and would like to know which unit - Cub or Detail Master - performs best for the money.
I plan to use the burning system to do some minor surface embellishments - nothing major.
Thanks for the input

I use the Detail Master. I've had it for over a dozen years and never had a problem. If you are doing fine work I would suggest the 3A point. Also keep in mind that you will have to sharpen the edge with some 600 grit silicone carbide paper. Check out what I have done with this tool.
I've used the optima dual burner for years. Check out also Razortip.
if you are handy, you can save $ by buying just a pen, and then making the power supply from an old computer power supply, or something found surplus (I use a wire stripper power supply) - the burning pen I use seems to like around 2.5 V, so you would want to be able to adjust around a voltage like that.

2.5 V, so you would want to be able to adjust around a voltage like that. ^^^^^^^^^^^^ Maybe something like a doorbell Xformer or a battery charger running through a light dimmer.if you want to use an old computer PSU, I've posted the description on how to do that on Woodcentral. I didn't get any feedback (maybe it was too complicated), but it works very well.
Cool! I missed that post. Thanks for the detailed info!
