Dewalt/Emglo 2HP Compressor with 4 Gallon Tank

This may not be the correct NG, but does anyone have any experience with the above. Specifically, would it have enough cfm's to handle a standard spray gun to spray lacquer on my turnings? It puts out 4.5 cfm of air at 100 pounds and runs on 110 volts @ 15 amps.

I'm not sure I could justify a large compressor with a 60-gallon tank. I would like to have compressed air in my shop for clearing chips and for spraying small items, maybe even a piece or two of furniture and was just wondering if this unit would be sufficient. Thanks.

Barry, That should be big enough to do turnings, unless you save up a bunch and do them all at one time. The storage capacity is the limiting factor. If you run into problems, you can but a secondary tank for a low price (last one I bought was about $35.00). Since you'll neeed to regulate the pressure down considerably, the CFM rating for the compressor itself won't come into play until the tank pressure goes below the regulated level (I usually spray lacquers around 40 PSI). This set up would not be good for spraying large panels like an auto body. BTW, you'll also need a filter and moisture trap/ drain.

It won't handle a full size, standard spray gun very well - but the small touch-up guns would work fine. And, unless you're doing large panels, walls or hoods you wouldn't need a full size gun anyway. The small guns have the same controls and spray patterns but a smaller cup - which isn't a detriment when you only want to finish a small area anyway.

If you ever get the notion to run a pneumatic sander you'll be outa air real quick. Otherwise, these small compressors will dust off, power nail/brad/staple, air your tires, and perform small painting jobs very well. I've got a tank-less that's similarly rated to this and I can do the above with no problem.

Barry I have a similar compressor. It does have a bigger tank (claims to be 6 gal)but I doubt you would need anything larger than what you mention. I purchased the "Critter" spray gun ($39 Amazon.com). It works beautifully. The Critter works on 30# pressure for Deft lacquer and I have sprayed about 15 bowls at one time. I don't think the compressor came back on more than about 2 times. Darryl

I agree with Owen. With this size motor (probably only 1HP in reality) = and a dinky tank, you could spray for a half a minute, then wait for the = tank to refill and repeat. This unit was intended for nailers.=20

If you don't have this compressor already, you might consider this compressor from Grizzly. The compressor is truly 3 horsepower and comparing cfm&pressure ratings with others with so-called 3 peak horsepower ratings, you will see the difference:
