Gatlinburg Area Wood Turners

Joyce and I are taking a week's vacation in Gatlinburg next week. We are leaving this Friday, July 24, after work and will be there through the following Friday, July 1st. I would enjoy being able to visit someone's shop while we're in the area. If anyone's willing to have a couple of visitors for an hour or so, email me. I just got a new Stubby 750 in January, but consider myself and advanced novice. I enjoy seeing what others are doing on their lathes.

I'd suggest a stop at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts. The entrance is just across from the Aquarium in Gatlinburg. They have an amazing shop, and an outstanding gallery of turned pieces. I'm not sure who will be teaching what this Friday, but they often break for lunch about 11:30 and don't get back into classes until well after one. The week I was there, most of the students were back in the shop by 12:30, so you might be able to look around and chat a bit without interrupting any class activity then.

Better still, while you're there, ask about upcoming events and schedule your next week's vacation *at* Arrowmont. The accomodations and food are great, and if your significant other likes any kind of arts or crafts, look over the schedule of painting, metal crafts, fiber art, etc. This is a great place to spend a week!

Have fun!
