Help! I can't get the quill and the lead close enough to screw together. Both will move in the tail stock but not close enough. Any ideas?

It sounds like you are having difficulty getting the quill and leadscrew to engage properly on your Jet 1015 lathe. There could be several reasons for this issue:

  1. Misalignment of the tailstock: The tailstock on your lathe may not be aligned properly, causing the quill and leadscrew to be out of line with each other. Try loosening the tailstock and moving it to the right position before tightening it again.
  2. Worn or damaged leadscrew or quill: If either the leadscrew or quill is worn or damaged, it may not be possible to get them to engage properly. Check for any damage and replace if necessary.
  3. Dirty or damaged threads: If the threads on either the leadscrew or quill are dirty or damaged, they may not engage properly. Clean the threads and make sure they are in good condition.
  4. Improper assembly: Make sure that the quill and leadscrew are assembled correctly. Check the manual for proper assembly instructions.

If none of these solutions work, you may need to consult with the manufacturer for further assistance. In some cases, the problem may be more complicated and require additional repair or replacement of parts.
