Kiln or how to store wood?

Just got some land and have a lot of hardwoods to play with. What will be the best way to store them? Should I setup a solar kiln or just air dry them? Thankfull for any help, never had a problem of too much wood before! Greg

Hey Greg if you go to Darrell's website take a look at his sawbuck. I made one a bit bigger and screwed 2X4's going midway down the front, parallel to the top, to stabilize it. I've chewed the top up and when it gets to bad I will just unscrew the top and make another. One of the best tools I use. It'll go great on that TN property!

Hi,

I'm in the same boat as you. Too much wood. But, I worked in a sawmill, so I was always bringing home lumber. Now I got about 4,000 feet of various fancy and unique woods (curly-maples, oaks, ash, beech, cherry; crotch figured woods, walnut, locust, burls, etc.) more lumber than I have room for.

I built a solar kiln and have dried some of it. But most of it is stickered waiting for me to use what I already have.

I have an article on my solar kiln on my website, with links to more solar kiln info at

it can be of use to you.
