New lathe

I am looking for a new lathe to turn small items such as pens, bottle stoppers, finials, and xmas decorations. This is not the majority of what I turn, but I don't like turning this on my regular lathe. Its to awkward. I appreciate any assistance I can get for help on deciding what type of lathe works for this. Oh, I forgot to mention that I was looking for something that I could mount on a workbench.

Thank you for the help.

Hm.....

I turn things as small as lace bobbins on a Stubby 750 and find it an ideal lathe for the job. Every time I use a lesser machine, especially the minis, I find them terribly awkward to use. The tool rests are too lightweight, it seems impossible to get to the controls, nothing works as smoothly as it should... On the Stubby I lean on the tailstock to steady myself in relationship to the machine so we 'become one' (poetic!).

Have you tried turning your small stuff on a small lathe? If not I'd suggest you do before you go ahead with your plan.

Hi Bill, My experience re the pleasures and advantages of using small lathes to turn small objects is opposite from yours, but I agree 100% with your suggestion. Regards, Arch
