How deep do the pins have to be inserted into the wood to get a reading? Can you get a reading by just barely penetrating the surface. I'm not concerned with getting an accurate measurement of water content just a repeatable one with the absolute least penetration possible. If I measure the exact same spot multiple times will I get the same reading consistantly?

Larry,
The pins don't have to be deep, but you do have to keep from rocking the meter back and forth which might cause the pins to have intermitent contact.
