Tabletop Disk sander recommendation?

I'm interested in recommendations for a table-top 6 or 8" disk sander (with or without a belt sander). I'm most interested in one that has good dust control, ease of changing disks, and most important--a good table with mitre slide.

Any recommendations?

I have a 12" Grizzly. In retrospect I'd get a Delta if I was doing it over. Not much difference in price but the disk isn't flat on the Griz. It works OK, but I think I could have done better...

I've got a Delta 6" disc / 4" belt combo, and it's been very good to me. It has a decent table that can be used with either the belt or the disc, as well as a little mitre guage, and seems to hold adustments fairly well. It also has a dust port that can be hooked directly to a shop vac with a 2" hose with no special adapters.

The belt can be set vertically, horizontally, or any angle between those two extremes, and is extremely easy to change- it only requires a quick flip of a lever to loosen and retighten the belt. The disc is an adhesive setup- which is harder to change than something like velcro backed discs, but works better and is cheaper, IMO.

I'd buy another one in a heartbeat- and will, if this one ever goes out, which it shows no signs of after 3 or 4 years of heavy use. I think they cost about $60 most places.

Hi Kevin, I researched the Delta vs. Jet 12"ers about 2 years ago and ended up buying the Jet even though it was about $100 more.

The table is wider at 9" vs 6"; weighs 100lbs vs. 72lbs; better dust collection capabilities 4" connector and fan directly off the sanding plate in which one could use an add-on dedicated canister filter or connect directly to DC; second table groove perpendicular to sanding plate for increased control of circle without homemade jigs; miter gauge and circle pin included.

The motor horsepower between the two is negligible given that both are

I buy some 6" sander for where I work and we have in the past bought Delta, and I found you can get them at Lowes for $219 when on sale, reg $229, but we have had some problems with the bearings with the last couple of ones we bought, but was in Sears the of day and looked at a nice one for $299

Nice machine - I'll have to give it a good consideration if/when I upgrade.

Funny thing. The DS seems to be the most dangerous tool I own. Never bit myself with the bandsaw, tablesaw, lathe, etc, but I *always* end up abrading my fingertips with the DS. It never fails. I'm making some segmented jars & a segmented lighthouse, and sure enough, yesterday I take a little patch of skin off my fingertip. Go figure. Usually it's just my family that suffers when I play my fiddle, but now it's all of us!

I originally had a 6" Delta which worked, but I had trouble keeping surfaces square when doing finer things like segmented bowls as the like. I've had much better luck with the 9" Jet (JSG-96). A lot more money, but consistent results. I still keep the Delta around for less exacting work.
