Reyd, Leif Thorvaldson has a whole write up on using liquid dish detergent (LDD). If he doesn't pipe up, do a google search and you'll get a whole bunch of posts and varying opinions.
(If you do get Leif's treatise AND try it out AND it doesn't work for you. DON"T post here that it didn't work if you DIDN"T follow his instructions to the letter. He's kinda touchy about folks monkeying with the process and then complaining about failure.)
PS - would you mind clueing me in on how to pronounce your first name? "READ", "RAID" or something else?

Reyd: Owen is correct in his suggestions to you about LDD (not soap, really, it's a detergent). Ron Kent was kind enough to post "The World-famous Treatise on LDD" on his website, directly under his description of his spiritual experience resulting in the secret of LDD being passed down to we mortals. If you do engage in this arcane process, please send questions and comments directly to me. The reason for this is that there are reactionary folks in the world of woodturning who refuse to see the light. Experience has taught me to let these slumberers slumber so as not to activate all sorts of unpleasantries. If you do post on the rec. then you will be associated with the acolytes of LDD and suffer all sorts of references to your family and forebearers! Why, someone actually accused me of being a Swede! As Owen mentioned, tamper not with the sacred text and its intruxtions. If you do, you will experience a plague of cracked and warped bowls! I agree with Owen as to his enquiring about the pronunciation of both your names. Additionally, I would like to know where in Canada you reside? *G*

why do I want to find out how this works? because I think it sounds really good to have the wood cut much smoother. how did I find it? trolling through sites, following all the links in each page, to the next pages, and all the links from that. I think it was from somebody's tips section that I found 3 levels down from my starting point.
