Alligator

Hello all!!

I am currently knitting the Stuffed Pond Alligator from Lion Brand....it calls for shank buttons for eyes and nose. Since I am knitting this for a grandson I thought that knitted eyes and nose would be safer; however, I am great at following patterns and really suck at trying to design.

Can anyone who has knitted any animals send me instructions on how to knit a small circle for eyes and nose.

thanks Carol

Anytime I ever made stuffed toys that needed eyes, etc (whether the toys be animals or clown dolls) I embroidered them on. However, on some clowns that I made which called for pom-poms on the hat top and in place of "buttons"... instead of making pom-poms which I felt could be pulled off and pieces of them get stuck in a baby's throat, I crocheted a circle or star shape (not a clue now how I did it, it's been a few years) and then sewed them in place of the pom-poms.

I know that it wasn't too difficult to crochet them... but I'm not even near my yarnwork at the moment to whip one up and tell you how. Sorry.. but I hope it helps a little. I'm sure someone else on the newsgroup will tell you how to crochet (or even knit) them though. Good luck! :o)

Thanks, but crochet is not in my ability scope....tried it....just wouldn't figure it out.

How about using I-cord and only knitting two rows? As in cast on, knit across once, thread the yarn through for a drawstring and pull tightly to make the center. Flatten and use the tail to sew it on.

I totally understand.... been there, done that ..... for a long time, in fact until I decided to go for lessons one day and practiced from the instructions in the new book that I had bought for about 1 - 1 1/2 hours before the time for the lessons. Suddenly it all just fell into place and I actually worked out all the swatches before going to the first lesson. Now I love to crochet! :o)

Good luck to you, in whatever way you make the eyes. :o)
