ATTN: Caro RE Hot Wheels chart

Hi Caro,

I had a few minutes this morning and opened up my charting software and played with the Hot Wheels logo.

The best image I could come up with is a rather large knit chart. You'll need to use fingering weight yarn and get a gauge of 8 stitches and 10 rows per inch (which is what I get using fingering weight) for the picture to look it's best.

I've pared it down to a still big 122 stitches by 37 rows, so that means it's going to be at least 30.5 inches around. May be too big for your GS, but maybe not. The image will be about 3.7 inches tall. I tried smaller sizes, but it just didn't look right.

I put the image on my web site, but not on any pages. You'll find it here:

Hi Leah, Thank you so much... but...

everytime I try to look at it (and I've tried both IE and Firefox,)

I just see a little Angelfire logo that says, "Image hosted by Angelfire...." and nothing else.

Regards,

Caro

Hi Caro,

Did you double click the URL? I tested it before posting, and it opened IE 6.0 and came up fine for me. My DH just tried the URL in Firefox 1.5.0.1 and it worked for him, too. He also tried it in Opera 8.52, and it worked.

I wonder if you have some setting turned off that prevents you from seeing JPG files? Or, if you hand typed the URL, did you put .jpg at the end rather than .htm or .html?

I did write up the description strangely. A single side would be

15.25 inches with that chart, while a matching sweater back or front would make it 30.5, found that confusing after I posted!

Here's the URL again in case you're still interested.

If that doesn't work, is your pencil pusher e-mail correct? I coulddirectly e-mail it to you. I can convert it to any graphic format youlike, gif, bmp (which I think tend to run big), etc. Leah

I got it to work for me! (I ended by looking at "properties" of the URL in your posted message, then copying that and pasting it... strange but very PLEASING! Thanks so much for working out that chart, it's tremendous. I was thinking of making him a hat in worsted, which would run just under 100 stitches around, but switching to sports weight might do it .... or, I'll make him a sweater.

Thanks again, this was a great kindness.

Leah, thank you so much. I finally got it to work by looking at properties of the URL as posted in the email and then copying/pasting the URL properties info into an address bar. And it was so worth it!

Thank you for doing this. I had been going to knit him a hat from worsted, which would be a bit too small for the design, but that can be changed by switching to sports weight... or I'll just make him a sweater. Thanks again, very much.

Hi Caro,

I'm glad I could help. I remember trying to chart things out before getting DAK and having the same frustrations.

Quote from my DH, "When I was a kid, I was a BIG Hot Wheels fan, and if anyone in my family had made me a hat and/or a sweater with that logo on it back then, I'd have been just thrilled. That's one lucky kid!" I didn't know that about him until after I told him you'd got the chart, but I did figure collecting all kinds of cars is a nearly universal thing for boys and men :-)
