Speaking of Head sizes , i had this woman who came over to loan some DPs [ i have big sizes i bought abroad , you can`t get bigger than 6 mm here] , she saw my beret and imidaitely said;"Why don`t you add elastic to the head band ? " ... Now i don`t like elastic on my head and said so ,,, :"Your problem " said the woman ....... Trouble ??? why ??? mirjam

We measured my step grand daughter's head circumference - If I recall, it was about 19". She is 4 1/2. Susan K

Hi Dora, Before you rip it out - can someone measure her head? Maybe using a piece of string and then measuring that? It would be a shame for you to rip it. Susan K

I recently made a hat with a rolled brim (plain stockinette stitch) in my continental knitting class. It was about 17 inches in circumference. I gave it a friend who has a 2 year old girl; he said it fits her perfectly and she loves it because she can get it on and off by herself.

The children live some distance away and I don't have their e-mail, although perhaps her grandmum might have an idea.

My family tends to have large heads, although these kids might take after their mom more. You should see the picture of my grandmom's family. Basketball heads, all of them. Dora

That is another thing. I don't really like the brim on this one, which is straight stockingette. I'd like to redo it with a seed stitch or ribbed edge.

Elasticized brims like Mirjam rejected are really unnecessary when using hand techniques. They are most useful in machine made berets, I would think. All you need is a big circle, run a bit of elastic around the edge and you're set. Dora
