How to temporarily attach glass pieces to crochet project?

Thanks Mary - I should have mentioned I'm giving the doily to someone far away, someone who doesn't crochet, so I wanted something they could detach and re-attach themselves without much work.

What about some kind of spring ring - sort of like jewelry? A lobster claw sort might work well - attach to each crystal, and then you can just take them off to wash the doily. I've seen bags with a dozen or more of the lobster claws at any number of craft stores - try the jewelry section.

David my idea is to make little net [bags] that will hold the glass objects , and which can have a hook [ you can use a skirt hook] to hang it onto the Doilie , mirjam

Are the irises flat on the back?. If so I would try to glue one half of a snap fastener (press studs as we call them in UK) to the back of them and sew the corresponding half on the doily. Shirley

If you go with that idea I would use the plastic type snap fastener and use a clear glue to attach them to the stone. Also they will not show up as much on the doily as metal ones and no risk of rusting. Shirley

Mirjam, I guess I've lived a sheltered life - I haven't come across net bags containing nice-smelling dried flowers lol! But I think I understand what you mean - I've gotten cloves of garlic, dried vermicelli noodles and a few other food items in plastic "net bags", I guess that's what you mean.

Hi David, Well I was getting so much spam that when I built and put my website up my son David decided to anti spam my email address on newsgroups. It cut the spam dramatically. He made that address up, not me, my brain does not work that fast. After all I am 70.

Now about flying doilies, I cannot think of anything off hand but give me time to work on it. LOL. If I could I could sit on one and bring you some snap fasteners. Hi David, I am very sorry to hear of your disability. I will look at your work as soon as I can. Unfortunately I seem to be having problems getting to websites. I just keep getting timed out messages. Before he went to join his ship yesterday David tried to sort it for me. He said there was some routing problem and I needed to call my provider. This I did and they said it was my fire wall causing the problem. However David rang me a few hours later and said he did not think it was, so he instructed me how to turn it off and then try for websites. It did not make any difference so we know it is not that. I cannot get ebay even. This is happening using both Firefox and Netscape. However I can as yet get on with Internet Explorer.

Regarding Skype - I connect to the net using my DOS computer, so I con't use Skype. I can however use IRC - internet relay chat, talking back and forth by typing. For Windows the program is called MIRC, I believe it's free to download and use. I haven't used IRC in years so I would need to re-acquaint myself in using it.
