Is the Channel Island cast-on worth it??

It's such a gorgeous day here in Maryland that I wore myself out early weeding and turning over my compost pile, so I decided to go through my stash for something different (even my sampler afghan squares pall after a while). So I picked out the Gansey Socks I started...I blush to think how many years ago! Possibly five. That damn Channel Island cast-on, where you created a beaded edge by knotting with three strands at once, was just hell...and that's where I quit. I finally got the CO done and joined, and have knitted three rounds, and the beads are of course a mess. I'm sure it's lovely when it's done right, but...

now to see whether I can knit socks with a charted pattern. The Md. Sheep & Wool Fest is coming up in three weeks and I'll be too embarrassed to buy any more kits with so many UFOs & USOs (UnStarted Objects) in my drawers. Well...I bet I won't, I"m never too embarrassed to buy more!

I used the CI CO for the sampler gansey in BBR's book. When I get around to starting my full-sized gansey (soon now, I'm swatching for it) I intend to use the CI CO. The effect will be lost from a distance due to the fine gauge but I don't care...

I hadn't heard about The cast on, but found a "how to" website and several photos! It looks NICE, but also complicated to do. I will save it and try later, but I think I must be day I have lots of patience, "peace" and time! LOL!

And the weather:...last sunday was a dream, I had plans for some wonderful "first spring hours in the garden", but couldn't resist the boat, as the sea was lying as a mirror in the sun!

THIS week end: visit from family in Oslo, hoping for beautiful spring days: Saturday; 20cm snow, now; wet, melting sludge! AUD ;-))

You're a braver woman than I am. It's hard enough with a fairly rough yarn, I can't imagine doing it with a fine gauge.

So tell me, what do you do with all those ends hanging off the beginning of your knitting?? I shudder to think of weaving in five ends at the beginning of my sock.

Aud.... seems you're in a surfing mood... can you find me an online 'tutorial' for provisional cast-on??? It's been way too long since I've done one, and the Icelandic/Faroese I want to work on uses one.... and I'm embarrassed to admit, I've forgotten HOW! LOL! Hugs, Noreen
