Probably, Sue. I just like the idea of a poncho being thick.

I've seen some people wearing some really pretty ponchos in lightweight yarn. They look warm enough for cooler spring and autumn days (and likely a couple of cooler summer evenings), but not quite warm enough for colder wintery days.
*hugs* GemOh yes, I just love the idea of worldwide, yarn filled, craft enhanced very special hugs which are known to those involves *higs*. I thinks hugs with hiccups is a perfect description as long as the extra care and friendship show through So.... Love & HIGS Christine
Bart your calculations seem perfect to me - I can see we have a clever maths genius in our midst - good work God Bless Gwen
Yes, I can see where that would work, Gemini, just not for me.

Hi Katherine! I must say I agree. And I afraid there are no such yarn in this time zone that I could use to knit that pattern. Argh...Such a pretty pattern...and easy to knit...and still completely impossible. Oh well...I must choose another one. I have spoken with Auntie Nora already...I do not know if my second favourite is better than this. Best: Pirjo
I must say I like that too. :) Best: Pirjo
Hi! Well, that garter stitch poncho is out of the question if mounts of stitches are like that. I could not control such mount. No way. So....I had to take another plan.
Hi Pirjo, I looked at the Choo Choo (funny name) pattern and see it has a gauge of 16 sts = 10 cm. So the first yarn would be the better choice. You still might have to add some stitches and rows to make it large enough. Or you could try a larger needle to get the right gauge.
Well, life is all about compromises, isn't it, Pirjo? Good luck with your poncho.

I agree with you, Jan.

Hi Katherine! I think you are right. :) I have been there and done that...Oh well. *sigh* Must find another pattern...one which suits as poncho better than that garter stitch one. Best: Pirjo
Hi! This sounds more encouraging. Maybe I try that then. Thanks for encouraging me. Best: Pirjo
GO for it, Pirjo!

You could always use two strands of knitting worsted at the same time, that would make it nice and thick. I've done that to make slippers when I don't have the colour I want in bulky yarn.
*hugs* GeminiHi Gemini! Thanks for the tip. Why did not I think of that? *ashamed of herself* Best: Pirjo
