Hi Judy, Here are the faq's

  1. The invitation to participate will be posted, called Threads exchange or something like that.

  1. From that a list of partners will be arranged and posted.

  2. Contact your partner direct to obtain their snail mail address.

  1. Exchange to consist of 5 lengths of yarn each 4 metres long (1 metre = 1 yard 3 inches)

  2. Yarns are to be at the senders choice of colour and type. The more variation the better.

  1. Threads are to be mailed out before the end of the month.

  2. If you cannot meet your obligation, please let your partner know as soon as possible. Also, do inform the management team offlist,

  1. You need to sign up each and every month that you wish to be included. (this way, one can 'dropout' when necessary, and rejoin when you are ready, or your 'situation' changes).

**IMPORTANT NOTE**: It has been decided that if you are behind two months in the exchange, you will not be allowed to sign up until you have caught up with your OBLIGATION. Sorry about this, but we must be 'fair' to all involved, and keep this FUN for all concerned!

Now, I think when it was originally discussed it could be any kind of thread not just yarn, so feel free to send what ever you have. Perhaps you could include the name and what it is make of (wool, acrylic or whatever) of what you've sent, with your package.

What do people do with the lengths when they get them? Sorry for all of the questions. I don't think I will sign up just yet but am just wondering. Thanks, Judy

Well Judy, I'm not sure! Everyone has different ideas on that one, and maybe some of them will answer your question.

I have used some as added embroidery materials to my artwork . used one or two as Crochet addition to Free form works ,,, one became a Elaborating thread on a plain sweater ,,,, etc.... When i get them , i put them in a big see through Plastic Jar. Which gives me a nice LOOK on all. mirjam

I'm collecting mine until I get enough for a wild scarf or hat (or both). ;>)

I've been asking for threads that I can use to make two different Kaffe Fassett patterns (his patterns tend to use about 20 different shades in one article of clothing). So far everyone has sent me at least one length that I've put aside for those. I happy to get sent something completely different though. I also like to get the kind of yarn that every USA LYS, or Canadian LYS or Australian LYS gets, because I can't get them very easily over here.

I haven't yet decided what to do with the other lengths: there are loads of knitted bags and purses around at the moment and they would be good for one of those. Or maybe make squares to add to the 6x6 ones I'm getting, so I can make a real rcty blanket.

I like Marjam's idea of putting them all in a glass jar: that must look really pretty.

Oh thanks Marjam: I had remembered your offer. There are two projects I'm planning. One is KF's "Cones" waistcoat for dh, which I will be making in pure cotton: it has red triangles on a striped background. The triangles are quite big, so I buying up red cottons for those, but I'm asking my thread partners for other 'warm' colours, like oranges and yellows.

The other jumper which we discussed was for me; it uses a pattern which looks like woven stripes, but I can't remember the exact name of it offhand. I'm going to do pink stripes in one direction, and lilac/purple stripes in the other direction.

Anyway, if you have anything that would go nicely, I'd be very pleased to get it. I don't know the exact lengths I'd need, but in both cases it would be quite short lengths. For the waistcoat, I'd need enough to one row all the way round, and although I haven't checked, I think about 4m would be right. I haven't checked the jumper either, but I think that would be less then 4m, and anyway, it wouldn't matter if I changed colour in the middle of those sections.
