Hi Kira,
I always used bobbins when using more then one color and the more I used the better. I did one train design that at one time had 37 bobbins hanging on it and it was fun to do. I never knew how much yarn I'd need, just wound the bobbin full and went from there. That's one thing I miss about not knitting now.
