OT: Areas of Toronto flooded

Hi

Just wanted everyone to know that DH and I are fine. We were hit here in Toronto by a very bad rain storm yesterday afternoon and low laying areas are flooded and some roads has been washed away.

Thanks everyone.

Here is an update. The city is basically back to normal now. One road will be closed for three months as they rebuild it but at least that's all the major damage here. There was a tornadoe that touched down about 100 km north west of Toronto but no one was killed there either. It sure was an experience driving around Friday evening and the river was moving faster than we were driving along a highway.

The rivers are still fairly high but at least there are below their banks now.

Now we are just hoping that it won't rain too much for the next little while as the ground won't handle anymore.

Take care Darlene in Toronto

I watched the news last night and *still* didn't see about the flooding in Toronto... of course I was in and out of the room a few times, so *that* would likely be the time it would come on. However, I did see where Hamilton area was hit by a tornado. Did any of that come near you, Darlene... or was that possibly what caused the flood?

Matthew and I were wondering why the satellite went out on Friday night for a while, as the sky was all clear here... I guess we know now.

Peace! Gemini

The tornado hit north and west of Waterloo around Milverton and Fergus. We drove to Listowel on Saturday and saw some of the effected area around Dorking.

The flooding that we had in Toronto was due to the the rain that hit in the area. Some reports were we had between 65 - 100 mm of rain in under two hours. Most of the rain was in the north end of Toronto but the effect was felt right down to the lake.

Darlene, Do you visit the Patons factory outlet in Listowel? If so, is it worth the trip? My sis is in Detroit and sometimes drives through Listowel on her way to Parry Sound. Should she stop and shop? Posey

I loved the store in Listowel, I do think that they have an annual sale. Don't you go to it Darlene, I seem to remember that you talked about it here. I used to have a friend, a sheep farmer, we would visit, and on our way there, we would always stop in Listowel to shop at Spinright. I think that they also used to have a shop in Toronto, on Bloor Street.

I went to the sale at the factory outlet in listwel as they were having a tent sales tht ends August 27th. Some of the prices are good and others aren't any different than other stores. I basically got the sale items and i know the mill ends are always a great deal.

Hi Els

That sale is actually why we went to Listwel this weekend.

The shop on Bloor Street is closed so now the only way to get a good deal is to do to the Spinrite store. It's a long drive but DH and I had a lot of fun taking our time on the way home. I did get three lots of worsted weight at 10-100grams balls for $6.99 and then I picked up a cone of novelty yarn for $20 and it was also about 1,000 grams so lots of yarn to use now. Melody yarn was 10-100 gram balls for $15 so I also picked one bag of that up.

Yes i did go over board on the buying considering I'm not doing very well in the knitting and crocheting category right now.

Wow, you did allright there. I love bargains like that. It is how I felt when I went to Designers fabric on Queenstreet west. It is amazing what they have in different fabrics. I wandered around for a long time with out buying anything but just looked and touched. In the end I bought the knitted cotton fabrics to try my hand at the stolas with sleeves. The colours that seem to be in right now are bright green and icy blues. I also noticed along the Danforth the wonderfully green coloured potatoe vines in planters with deep purple petunias to compliment the greens. I will try to grow some next year on our deck. The colour combinations were great.
