OT - Sudden drop in temperature.

When I came home around noon today the icicles and snow was melting and dripping from the roof onto the deck. I just turned on the furnace long enough to take the immediate chill out of the air, then back off again. A few minutes ago I was reading my emails when I realized that I was starting to shiver and my hands were like two chunks of ice. I put the dogs out for a couple of minutes, plugged in the kettle to make myself a cup of tea, and turned on the furnace again. When I went to the door to call the dogs in the house, Casper came running up onto the deck first and as he rounded the corner of the house at the bottom of the step on the lower deck he almost wiped out.... where all the snow and icicles had been melting and dripping, there is now a thin sheet of ice. Looks like I will be holding the rail of the deck as I go across that area later this afternoon when I head out.

However, on a brighter note... the sun is shining beautifully and the sky is blue with wispy clouds. :o)

It is cold here too in UK. Our fish pond froze over and we have a small frog encapsulated in the ice. It must have come out of hibernation just before it turned cold. DH had to switch the pond heating on to protect the fish and other creatures in there. Shirley

Gem, we are now in the middle of a snowstorm that started in Alberta and is now over Manitoba, heading east. I was supposed to go out to one of my knitting group meetings tonight, but decided against it... the highway would have been UGLY. (sniff) I really enjoy those meetings, and this is the 2nd one I've missed.

I think it's supposed to snow all night, so it should be interesting for DH to get home from work in the morning. Good thing we have a big snowblower. Hard to believe the first day of spring is in 3 weeks. Can't wait!

I can now swear that spring is indeed coming - I have crocuses and daffodils in bloom - they have just come out over the last two or three days. These are just the first of my daffodils - the fancier ones come later.

Hi Shelagh and Gem,

Thanks so much for keeping the snow up there. On the late news the weatherman said that the Candians were blocking the storm that was coming across the US from reaching us and it's fine with me. Now, some of the others on here, Joan and Rusty won't agree as they are getting what I was supposed to. LOL

Hugs,

Well, thank you VERY much, Shelagh... you just HAD to send it to us, didn't you?!? LOL

It snowed here all day yesterday! It didn't look like much looking out the window because it was so fine, but it sure did accumulate. We ended up with almost as much as we got last weekend... and I almost got stuck backing out of the laneway in the afternoon. When we got home I got Matthew to just clear out up beside the house where I park then stand back while I plowed through the deep stuff in the laneway to get to the shovelled part. I

*needed* to get the van up the laneway right then because the dogs hadn't been fed and there was no dogfood in the house to give them. We had just bought a huge bag which was in the back of the van and it couldn't be carried all the way up the laneway without Matthew breaking his neck wiping out in the snow. He went back out before bedtime to finish clearing the rest of the laneway. Oh yeah... when we went out to the van yesterday morning there was a thick layer of ice all over it that had to be scraped off before we could go anywhere. It had just started to snow on top of the ice then.
