Ot To those of you with friends in need now

Many of you might know a friend in need , Now , who lost everything. Some of them will get back from insurance[s] the Big stuff , the sewing machine , the furniture etc,,, but over the years i found out that the `magic` and `confort/easy/fun` of our work room depends a lot on the `Little things`, the insurance won`t cover ,,,, a thimble , a pin cushion, with some colored pins, a thread or two of various colors, even a piece of cloth, a tailor`s chalk, some embroidery floss for repairs as well , some elastic , some buttons and hooks, a measuring tape , etc.. a bit of all this Notions , we collect over the years and take for granted,,,,, this we all can pack nicely add a soap or any other Little luxury ,,,, and once the freind has an adress ,,, send it to them i assure you ,, it will be well accepted and well used .mirjam

That is a lovely thought, Mirjam! My heart breaks for all those people I have seen on the news lately who are survivors and refugees of Hurricane Katrina. Most have lost their homes and everything in them, a lot have lost loved ones, and at least one lady I saw last night was separated from her baby when she passed him to someone on a bus and prepared to board herself... but she was pushed back away and the bus drove off with her baby inside. Yes, she knows that he is alive *somewhere* but she doesn't know where as the buses were taking refugees to a few different locations. She tried to board the next three buses and was pushed back away from each of them as well. The reporter talking to her finally got a police officer to help the lady get on board another bus, but still she didn't know if that bus would take her to where her baby had been taken.

I see that the Red Cross is asking for money, *not* for blankets or clothing. I feel helpless to help as we are on our last $20 ourselves at the moment, and therefore we can't afford to donate money to help. Clothing or even a blanket we could likely have helped with, but not with money, unfortunately. :o/ I hope the Red Cross and any other rescue missions can manage to get what they need to help the people start over, but unfortunately it won't give them back the loved ones, or family mementos that they have lost forever.

Peace & Love to all who need it! Gemini

Hi Gem,

You know the sad thing is that they want the money, but nothing else and these people won't see the money, it will go to build new roads, bridges and the intrastructure of the cities. I've been trying to find someplace where I can donate afghans that I have made, but I'm told money only, maybe later they will want donations other then that.

Hugs,

Nora
