OT - Winter is back.

Yesterday here in San Angelo we had a high temperature of 85 degrees (F) and it was absolutely beautiful. I've noticed this week that we have some trees beginning to leaf out.

This morning it is 32 degrees with a windchill of 19 degrees and our expected high today and tomorrow is 38 degrees. By Sunday we should be up to the mid-40s.

This back and forth weather is about to kill us healthwise. My DH is down with bronchitis and has three prescriptions. I'm hoping I don't catch anything!

Wish I could stay home and work on my NYCO, but I have to go to work today.

Everyone have a great (and warm) day!

Hi Bonnie,

How true, this winter has been nothing like a usual one. Have had real mild days and nights, but winter will be back later tonight and tomorrow and for a few more days, then back to mild again.

Hope the DH feels better soon and that you don't get it.

Hugs,

Nora in upstate NY

Cold and windy (but sunny) here today. The wind is coming the north. My primroses are looking a bit sad even though I did go out and cover them last night. The winter has been mild until now -- and rainy. That is our trade-off in winter -- warm temps with rain or cold temps and sun. Are you getting this cold wind, Els and Eimeer??

Tee hee - all of you are all spoiled ! (silly little laugh)

Real winter has finally hit the Canadian prairies, and I wish it would just go away. Last night it went down to -32°Celcius (-27.4 F), and it's bloody windy. They said on TV the windchill was -40, which is the same C or F. Brrrrrrrrrrr.

I would be very happy to have your warmer southern weather (smile)

Hate to complain, but here in Central Arkansas it has arrived also. Expected freezing rain and sleet for the next couple of days...not as bad as the north...but they these Southerner's have no idea what to do in this kind of weather (I say smugly since I grew up in Michigan).

Oh well, will work on the current projects, try to stay hope and hope the power stays on.

Brrrrrrrr is right. You won't be surprised to hear we have similar weather only not quite as cold being a few hundred miles south. Stay in and keep warm.

You are sooo right! I thought the 30's here in Daytona Beach, Fl., was cold but that sounds downright warm compared to you! I'm just hoping it gets warmer and stays that way for the 500 .......zoom, zoom, zoom :) Debby

Oh for Pete's sake, send US some of that rain, snow, anything! This is our 123 day without any rain. We already have brush fires burning north of here. There is such a thick layer of dust and pollution over everything that everyone's allergies are on a rampage. PS It was 80F here last week...... Marie and the cats

The temps in the teens here and the wind is blowing. Some folks just south of here had lots of trees down and are without power - brrr. No precip though. We had enough rain to last us in December and January - if any more shows up we will be glad to try to ship it your way.

We had temperature near 70 a couple days, and then it plunged back down again to the 40s. Fortunately, it doesn't look like any trees budded around here, or they'd be in trouble! We have a wood burning stove, and had stopped using it (cuts the heating bill in half), but we were out chopping more wood on Thursday as the temp dropped, and we need to chop some more this morning because it's freezing.

Gosh, I hope he gets better soon. Bronchitis is terrible, nagging cough, ragged breathing, hard to sleep, had it myself a while back, and it's so tiring!

I'm working on a pair of fingerless mittens this weekend. My hands have been getting cold, and I still want/need to use my fingers, so I'm using worsted weight scrap yarn to crochet a pair, and the first one is done. Hope to have enough time to complete them today. Maybe while DH is watching the Daytona I can get these done. Then it's almost a sure thing the weather will warm back up, LOL, get some gear to handle it, and it's bound to get nice. However, I would like some snow or even rain because we can use the moisture.

I started a pair of grey cable backed fingerless gloves in a Madrona Fiber Arts fair class - DH tried one on and claimed them. I finished the the other over the weekend. They are stretchy and fit us both

It is a little bit warmer today - I'll have to check on my outdoor plants and see what didn't make it through this weather. I covered some stuff up and need to uncover so the sun gets through.

-50?? That certainly puts a different perspective on "cold".

But I am thankful that our furnace went out and was replaced right before this latest cold (or would it be cool at 2 degrees F?) snap. :)

Do you go out when it gets that cold?

Was this directed to me? If so, yes I do go out when it is that cold. If I didn't, I'd spend a lot of time indoors!

I can only speak for -30/ -40, but sure, if the car will start(laugh). But definitely - the car HAS to be plugged in - if you have never had to plug your car in - up in the "Great White North" we use a block heater. It warms the engine block and oil, thus making it easier for the vehicle to start. Vehicles in south Ontario and south B.C. probably wouldn't use block heaters, but here on the prairies, it's a must. Some people also use battery blankets. And no (laugh), you don't knit or crochet those!

My Dad had a block heater here in southern Ontario, Shelagh. Actually I think I need it some mornings... umm, for the van I mean. LOL Thankfully though, it doesn't get that cold *that* often that we would need it... plus there is a wooden fence on one side of the van and the garage/workshop (too full to park the van inside, unfortunately) in front of it to block some of the winds.

We had a block heater in Iowa when I was a kid as we had no garage. The car was plugged in at the light post at the base of the steps up to the house. I always thought it was a little strange but Dad needed that car to get to work and it did help. Here in Washington State it is rare to have weather cold enough to cause those problems - plus our cars are snug in a heated garage. Dad would have loved that heated garage!

Hee, hee - I would LOVE that heated garage, but no such luxury for us yet..... both vehicles are out in the full elements.
