I like using these clasps but I think the shipping is a bit hefty for a small package. Shirley

That is really high when you could put them in one of those world wide envelopes. I think those are $5. (Well, they used to be. Not sure what they are now.)

(would like to change the subject to "shipping, was: ...", but I'm afraid if I try that now I'll lose what I already wrote. This is google, and I've never done that from here before. My local newsfeed is getting more and more decrepit.)

$4.95 in the US (the seller charges $3.- ? - so you can't do that for the shipping charge). Also, we had this argument before, you got to keep in mind the cost of the packing material (you can't just stuff findings like that into a flat rate envelope, and besides, you can ship for less than that), and the time it takes to get it ready for shipping. Where I am I can't get a padded envelope for much less than $1.-, and with a padded envelope you're into 'flats' rather than letters. You can't ship most beads and findings without padding - most beads and findings are into 'non-machinable surcharge' territory anyway. - I have similar concerns when shipping seeds. Unless you have a rather large order (I can get about 12lb macadamia nuts into a flat rate box), for some seeds the shipping is prohibitive.

That's my usual consideration too, how much can fit into a flat rate box. It makes a huge difference to me when I buy from the US.

Su,

you and I are (to some extent) in the same boat here (mine are domestic shipping when ordering form the US, though some people don't ship outside the 'contiguous 48 states', so our Alaskan friends are in th same boat too). - And parcel post takes about 2 months to get here. from the US mainland as well. One thing is different: Sending to me flat rate is less expensive from 2 lb up. Sending to Europe (don't know about UK, mine went to Germany and I know Austria is the same) it takes 5 lb. Of course when you're ordering beads or findings it's easy to get above 5lb (when ordering in bulk). Best answer I got so far was "if I put a comment into my order saying Please fill this up with , would you do that and charge me accordingly?" was: "we don't have a comment part in our order form yet, just send that by separate email, we'll do it". Haven't placed that order yet, hope it will work out. I really want some round malachite (green).

I actually didn't look at the shipping, which is unusual because I am a shipping freak. I argue with EVERYONE about how much shipping to pay,. and refuse to over pay. LOL.

I posted the finding for the finding. Thought it was cool.

Love the discussion.

SHOOT then I read some more and this person only ships to US. Want me to buy something for you and ship it to you? You are really overpaying for supplies. I buy mine at the dollar store, 4 bubble mailers for $1. no shipping. LOL

you're a great source of good tips! I never checked the dollar store (though I tend to buy my cutters for cutting memory wire there, everything else is a waste of a good tool), I just compared Office Max and Walmart, found Walmart cheaper and now pay a tad over $3 (well, actually closer to $4) for 5.

The problem is if you buy it and ship it it comes out pretty much in a wash with what I pay here. they say that shipping is the main reason why things are so expensive here, but I think it's the small and captive market. - People have told me that it's cheaper to fly to Honolulu to buy a used car and ship it than to buy it here. Even that. And gas costs $0.20 more per gallon even on the other side of the island.

bit less for foreign, up to 20lb, but it depends on the country you ship to, they can restrict it. I was amazed that Rainbows of Light fit my order into a flat rate envelope, that's even less postage.

Still, the item in question I believe had shipping of $3.- - OK, for a small order of findings that's a bit on the outside of tolerable for me too, that's where the "padded envelope" came in, and I think that one would have been shippable in a normal manila envelope with a bit of padding. As I tend to get my padding free (work, re-using bubble wrap and whatever we get with stuff.) I only charge for the packing bit if I ship clove seedlings and such because that's a pain to pack (I know that's OT here :-) ), but anyway, I do fit the 'pain to pack' into the S+H (there's the word handling in there too) or into the item price to some extent.

BTW, it didn't sell, I just checked.
