The beads will make a miraculous recovery by the time the bazaar rolls around, I promise.

Good thoughts coming your way that you have a great time .... Elise

You are? I'm strongly leaning toward going myself, although I'm no lampworker. I just want to see the process myself and maybe meet some RCBer's. Who else is going, and do you guys know if there's enough there to occupy an interested non-lampworker?

Kandice, I'm hoping to go out to Portland next year. I was there several years ago for Embellishment and fell in love with the city. The ISGB planning committee has a lot of great ideas. Patti

Hi Patti!

I Was catching up on the zillions of posts that accumulated since my last visit & yours really struck home, so I had to write to say 'don't worry'! :-)

Your concerns/stress caught my eye because I was musing very recently over the very same 'phenemonon. I've been creating/selling/showing/ etc for longer than I'd like to admit (oh my gawd I can't really be this old lol....) but STILL I find just like you that tension abounds as 'the date' of (fill in the blank - show/article/exhibiton) draws near. I go thru the check list in my mind...

Is the work technically sound - yes Is the work uniques yes Is the work pleasing (to me) yes Etc etc , anon and anon.... you know the pattern....

So what (I say to myself, and I have LOTS of conversations with myself, lol) is the problem? So I decided to make a concerted effort to, once and for all, find the genesis of the anxiety....

I don't know if it's any help, but the conclusion I finally came to is this:

That it's an issue of 'investment...

Not in the financial sense but in the heart and soul sense - it's the opposite side of the coin of the absolute THRILL it is (and remains to this day) you feel when your work is admired and sells...

I've come to believe that you can't have one without the other... No emotional investment/angst - no thrill/satisfaction.

You create, then you 'show/sell/share' what-ever.. and you put the entire process that occured between your heart/soul/mind/hands/skills 'out there' - so there is always a degree (at least for me anyway) of angst along with excitement. And it's funny because it's not about 'approval' or 'sales'(tho of course they matter!) but it's more about (I think) hoping people 'connect' with what you're trying to capture in each piece with color or form or flow or texture...' Have you succeeded in making your vision 'viewable' by the people who will be studying it? multiply that by hundreds of pieces for a show and you have a real 'where are my TUMS moment going! ha!)

Try to concentrate on the flip side - the thrill of the connections you WILL make with your work - not always, but many many times

It helps me - so for what it's worth...(maybe something - maybe not! lol)

Either way, Go, enjoy the show and make peace with what you've created - it's part of 'who you are' and in the end, what can be wrong with that?

Faith

It's put on by the International Society of Glass Beadmakers, and has beadmaking classes, seminars, torching competitions and a huge bead bazaar, along with a whole bunch of other little stuff. :)
