another bending question

One more bending question. I am bending panels for a dome swag lamp. K11 glass. The problem I am having is that half of my panels come out with a fold in the glass, similar to what you would get with a floral former, but not as large of a fold of course. I am using glass about 1" oversize then cutting down after the slump. Is there a way beat this. I am bending over a convex mold. Thanks Javahut for all the help. Hydoperm is cool stuff.

"Is there a way beat this. "

Yup, don't drape over, make a mold to slump into. Unless you go terribly high,(and 1400 is!), it will bend just fine and leave no marks.

Make a mold on the opposite side of the panel so it slumps into the mold and you will have no marks, drill a hole, as you found out, in the deepest spot, and fire to about 1265. Should be just dandy.

and yup, it's cool stuff, next you will want to know about patte de verre and kiln casting using another formula, with Hydroperm as its base ingredient!! Works great. higher fire too!

Cool, thanks. This would be that learning curve, right?

ahh, more black magic. Care to go into it now or some other day?

When you are ready to have some REAL fun, and create some neat 3 dimensional sculptures, let me know, just playing with it more again now, but the formula is in the Dan Fenton book, involves Hydroperm, diatomatious earth, and Kaolin clay. and works to higher temps than the Hydroperm/fiber combination.

Learning curve..... that was a joke right?

He has more than one, no? What's the name of it if you rmember?

I thought you might be in a slump and need a little bent humor

try doing the slumping in two firings. slump it slowly but not all the way the first time. let cool then slump it the rest of the way in a second firing.

Why?

By limiting the distance the glass has to fall each time I have had better control over the slump. of course slumping into a form is better but the question was about slumping over a form.
