Match the needle to the fabric and the elastic will be fine.

Actually, ball point or stretch or regular needle is not a function of the elastic itself, but of the fabric you will be sewing along with it. A knit fabric such as jersey for T-shirts will require a ball point or stretch needle. A woven fabric will require a regular needle.
