Just a question...

Does anyone ever hear from Sarah Allen, from Wales? She used to be on RCTY a few years ago, before we went offline. From what I can recall she had heard some upsetting news from her doctor, that she would be losing her eyesight.... and I believe (if I'm remembering correctly) that she was hoping to start her own small business too.

I was just wondering what ever happened to her.

I went to her Craft School in Wales for a weekend to learn how to tat, and it was a great weekend. There were only 3 of us on the course, and nobody on the bobbin lace course she had put on for the weekend. It was very early days, and it looked as if she had it all organised. The town, Blaenau Ffestiniog, is lovely but quite isolated, and since I was travelling there on public transport it took me 6 hours to get there and about 9 to get back!! I did keep in touch with her for a while after that, but then our computer went awry so I lost her email & stuff. I tried looking up her Craft School website, and couldn't find it, I do hope that the School went well. And I'm still tatting so it was well worth it!!! Love & higs Christine

That sounds nice, Christine! I'm glad you got to meet her and kept in touch for a while. It would be a shame if her Craft School had to close. Hopefully Cher, or someone else, can find her email address and find out how she's doing now.

This one is about knitting looms. The flat ones. I've been looking on the web and I'm thinking the flat looms are a precursor to the knitting machines. Right? Well, I guess I have a couple of questions come to think of it. The other one is when you knit with one of these will you end up with a stocking stitch like you would with a knitting machine? Just curious, is all. I've been knitting scarves all winter and am knitted out. I just got to thinking that maybe I should have made myself a knitting board. Might have been faster and easier. Btw, people have asked what we were going to use our

6x6 squares for. Well I decided to make them into scarves for "Global Warmth" I've had some beautiful blends of patterns and colours to make some lovely scarves out of. They will go to people any where in the world who have nothing to help keep them warm. Hope everyone that contributed to my 6x6 squares will approve. When I haven't been knitting scarves I've been making the sweet preemie bonnets and mitts for them as well.

As nearly as I can tell, yes.

Yep. You *can* produce textured stitch patterns with hand-manipulation but a standard back-and-forth operation will produce stockinette fabric.

Reply to the list as I do not publish an email address to USENET. This practice has cut my spam by more than 95%. Of course, I did have to abandon a perfectly good email account...

Otto made me a knitting board, but I do not find it faster than knitting with knitting needles. You can make all kinds of different stitches on it, other than stockinette stitch. I know that Mirjam uses hers a lot, she can give you maybe more detailed answers to your questions. Els

lol Cher (also I couldn't find the book with her snail in it, so asked someone whom I knew had it, so will write to her and see how she is doing, plus from that I can probably find her phone number)
