Mid-size Kiln ???

I've been thinking about switching kilns...

Anybody got any feedback on the Evenheat Hot Shot or Skutt Hotstart or similar kilns?

Who has the best prices?

Does Olympic have anything similar to the two mentioned above?

Actually, you don't. There are several places in the US that have the Skutt Hotstart for less than you do.

And, even if the money were the same or less, I would rather have my nose hairs tweezed out one at a time and bamboo shoots driven under my fingernails and Georgia red ants in my jockey shorts than to spend 10 cents with you, especially across an international border.

So, STFU.

By the way you constantly present yourself on this message board and typically slamming others, why the heck are you asking us for advice? You're the friggin' expert here. If you say you've seen lower prices, then go buy the blasted thing and stop asking silly questions as glassman would say.

In your own words as you told another, STFU. Bwahahahaah!

Now that our two resident piss-ants, Dickhead and Dickweed, have sounded off...

Back to the question:

Does anyone with any REAL fusing experience have any comments about the relative strengths and weaknesses of the various brands, Evenheat, Skutt, Olympic, etc., in the mid-sized kilns with a programmable controller?

Ask ten people and you'll probably get eleven opinions.

first kiln was a Paragon ceramic kiln that I got for $100. For another $300 I built a controller that is far better than what you will find on any of the mentioned kilns. Check your local classifieds. If you can find a steal, I can send you instructions for the controller.

Otherwise, the brands are pretty much the same. I see a lot of Evenheat and Jen-Ken where I visit (to repair). Both companies were helpful with my troubleshooting questions.

On another note. We just had a guy deliver and wire a Denver 4'x8' Bell kiln to our studio. He needed to get it out of his building and just wants to fire it a couple of times a year. He also dropped off a couple of tons of high grade lead crystal casting chunks and told us to make pretty things from it. Stay tuned.

They make them there. I haven't used them but I'm sure they are a fine product. Haven't heard any complaints.

Jack, please contact me privately. Remove the obvious from the addy above. I'd like to talk to you about the controller.

From where I sit, dennis posted one reply to Moonraker's request for information about kilns and then almost a dozen postings from regulars on this NG followed flaming him for it. So, I think the pollution is more the fault of the flamers' beating their chests than to the self promotion of dennis. They can blame dennis for making them do it, but that doesn't absolve them of responsibility for actually doing it: their solution is the biggest part of the problem.
