A Finish and a start and an ARRRGHHHH!

The finish: On Feb. 4 I finally, Finally, *FINALLY* have finished stitching the infamous Nativity set!!!! (Well, with one caveat: there are supposed to be tassels on the camels' bridles but I won't make those until after I have the interfacing on, since it would be quite difficult to iron the camels with those attached.) I have washed and ironed the pieces and they're now waiting for the iron-on interfacing and sewing together, stuffing, etc.

The start: Next I was going to work on Florentine dreams (

which I got from DSIL for Christmas but found that the canvas I hadwas a bit short. I will deal with that later. So, instead of FD, I dug out a pattern and supplies I bought at NN ayear or so ago.

finished all the kloster blocks, narrow border, the tulips (which acoworker in the SCA told me are really Nordic ships) and the satin-stitched hearts. I started on the Smyrna stitches inside the heartsand got around 2 sides.Got to the 3rd side and realized I had stitched 3 of the 4 sides ofhearts one thread in too far!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The ARGH: I pulled out the Smyrna stitches and I'm currently in the process of removing the hearts when it dawns on me: I HAD the Smyrna stitches in the correct spot and wouldn't have had to remove those!!!!

AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats! No doubt you'll be so thrilled to have them finish finished - don't stop now....

Ahhhh, poor you. Reminiscent of the time I redid the blackwork section on a Betsy Stiner sampler - 3 times. The first time I could see that I was off 1 thread from the band above. Pulled it all out - about 3" section. Of course DH told me it would drive me crazy, so I had to do that, and then he asked if I was sure my 4sided stitch band 2 up was correct cause some of the horizantals looks not quite horizontal (they blocked out perfectly). Then I did it again, and about 2/3 thru thought, oh no, I'm still off. Another rip. Then, for the 3rd time, as I get about 1/3 thru and thinking it's still wrong, I take a better look and realize that I'd been correct all along - just the band above was 1 thread wider than the others, due to the stitch in it, and I just couldn't tell that with the faint lines on the graph, and being an idiot, besides.

Well, have fun doing it again - y'know that practice makes perfect thing.

Good for you - will wait for the pix. As I am incredibly guilty with a small pile of finished pieces waiting to be "finished" . It must be my short and constantly switching about attention span. For anything except books...

Good idea. I was concerned that you were short in the design area. I was at 2 local LNS yesterday, picking up threads for a class I'm teaching at guild next month. And of course the author of the design, who is quite talented chose 2 of the threads that are only available at the shop furthest away, so I swapped the 2 overdyes for other brands. The LNS owner at stop 1 told me that a lot of people were already in kitting it up. Then as I was paying - she just said "I know you don't need any canvas - don't you have a ton? Plus - didn't you get some colored stuff from me?" Answer -yup. So, glad you've got a solution, but really - for supplies I'm generally reliable ;^)

Exactly know this feeling. DH still teases me about this, as it's one of the framed pieces that is now sitting about waiting for a location.

Been there, done that, Joan!! :-))))

P.S. I think I found a free chart on the internet for a flourishy type alphabet that will work with the picture of the horse's ears. Now all I have to do is to actually chart the horse's ears using the photos people have sent me. All that and the stitching too before June!!!!! :-))
