OT: Question of Legality

Hi Y'all,

I know the laws are different in each area but what are they like where you live with respect to the following?

My DW cooked up this left-over turkey concoction in her favorite cauldron. Before eating any I tossed a few morsels to our new puppy who devoured them like a starving shark. He didn't seem to be any worse for the tidbit so diet or no diet I proceeded to down the portion that my DW had allocated to me. I might add that the puppy is neither fat nor starving.

My question is as follows, "Can using a puppy as a food tester be considered inhumane (cruelty to animals) and subject to the pains and aggrevation of the law??"

I think you should take recourse in the defence of necessity, which is valid in Canadian Criminal Law. Necessity excuses an otherwise unlawful act when the performance of that act was necessary to preserve life or prevent serious immediate harm to oneself or another. You must simply explain to the Keeper of the Cauldron that it was necessary to use the pup in order to prevent harm to yourself. Then, of course, as we so often do around here, Run, Duck and Hide.

Answer to your question NO!!!! I also used my kids...Not a crime. NO one every died from my cooking. Still married for 32 years to the same husband.

I used my family and dog as taste tasters also.(kids all grown and gone). Many meals went in the trash... Last week we were watching a cooking show. And they made a stuffed chicken.Stuffed with turkey sausage stuffing. It looked easy and looked great! It said nothing about cooking the stuffing first. My husband and I looked at each other and said this is not right. But did it anyway. All our taste testers are gone!!!! Cat on special prescription food.He cant help!!! (And after over $2,000.00 in vet bills after the last few years. No way.) It also said the internal temp should read 165*F(wrong my temp probe reads 180*F plus extra time if stuffed). Well we followed the recipe .We put some of it in the trash. The sausage was not done and the bird needed more time.Re-cooked the bird a lot longer. It became chicken salad for the week. Spent too much money for that chicken. We then went out to eat. There went the months spending..

one time while all 5 of us and our beautiful husky were traveling we stopped at a Mickey Dee's)(mCD)fast food place. We all ordered 6 fish sandwich.(even one for the dog). The dog took a sniff and would not eat it.Neither did we. All went in the trash. If the Dog wont touch it either do we.She lived to be 16 years of age. So have a Great day Barbara

My other two Malamutes would not eat McTerrible hamburgers, not the meat nor the buns nor the fries so neither do I. With Burger King, A & W or Wendy's it never was a problem. They don't seem to mind Kentucky Fried Condor but I can't stand the stuff unless I'm desperate - which may come about this week. LOL

I spotted a pretty nice looking taste tester the other day but my DW advised me that the taste tester that I was looking at neither cooked, washed clothes, did housework or shoveled up after a dog. My DW also said something about said taste tester being high maintenance what ever that means. Looks like I'm stuck (and happy) with what I got. LOL

Casey doesn't beg or slobber on my feet! Casey just lays there like an unsuspecting sap and swallows anything that happens to fall from my grip. There is a silver lining, My DW hasn't a clue as to how to make a Haggis!

Good luck!!! My Husky Meisha would not eat the food that had red dye in it either.Nor treats given too her by others. She would only eat food given to her by us. She did like sonic. (No peas nor carrots either) My kids tried they were on there own!(They even tried giving her peas in the mash potatoes.Ate the potatoes and spit out the peas, she fit in this family real well) Barbara

Serving haggis to unsuspecting two-legged creatures should carry a heavy monetary fine. Serving it to four-legged creatures should result in a long prison term.

Nope, but you should be aware that there are lots of things that won't make the puppy sick that will still make you sick. So next time you should just let the puppy have the whole thing.

A short answer - a Scots dish served on Robert Burns night. Made of oatmeal, organ meats, onions and spices, stuffed into a sheep's stomach (sort of like a big sausage) and baked. Served with neeps and tatties ( mashed turnips and potatoes).

I've had some I quite like, and some which were dreadful

Here's a link to some recipes

Since the pup was okay, we'll let you off this time. However, anything resulting in pup illness may lead to a call to the local ASPCA (RSPCA?) :).

Probably so. We've managed with this dog to keep him from begging at the table, and he definitely won't bother guests. But, when it's just us, he's taken to sitting very close, looking quite soulful - no whining. So, we just give him a tiny, tiny taste of something, and then he's happy, goes away. We've decided with him it's not about the food, but about the pack leaders sharing with him. Fortunately, he's quite happy given green beans or carrots, even brussels sprouts! Yeah.
