OT Phone Damage ... Advice?

This is both a plea for advice and a whine! Yesterday I spent the late afternoon applying stain to the deck in the back yard. It was a nice day, and I was well supplied with cold water, portable radio, and cordless phone. Work went well, and I cleared up and came in the house and had a beer and supper. Last night it rained .... boy did it rain ..... in fact there is standing water in the lawn it rained so much. Guess what I'd left out on the table overnight? Yep, the phone and the radio. The latter is no loss ... about $8 ten years ago in Radio Shack. The telephone is another matter. It was quite expensive just about two years ago. It has all the features we want and is comfortable for hearing impaired. I would like to salvage this unit. Has anyone had similar experience and saved a cordless phone? Remember, if I have to lay out another $100 for a phone, I will be depriving myself of at least 10 or 11 yards of top notch fabric!! Help ...please!

Hi Pat, I know letting them dry off works for radios. DD and DH have both left radios out in the rain. After letting them dry off they both still work. Just don't leave it on and then put it somewhere you can't see it. DH did that to his and for a moment I thought I was hearing voices. Take care. Country Sharon

If the unit ends up not working (even though i hope it's ok) instead of replacing both the handset and the base unit, see if you can just replace the handset. The manufacturer is bound to have a website, or a contact number to buy replacement parts. I have found that this is much less expensive than completely replacing items.

Hi...I am a on again off again poster and lurker.. I worked in electronics for 20 years....Yes, I accidentally watered my phone...Don't turn it on.. Bet it is to late for you..But for the next time or in case.......Shake as much water out as you can...Set the phone on paper towels with the holes down, as to drain..I let my phone rest in the sun for a couple days, until I thought it was dry......Turned it on and it was just fine..The trick is to get it dry, before you turn it on....Hope this information helps some body some day............. good luck judy

SOME off us do--it 'breaks the tension' and helps us to know that someone cared enuf to respond : ) Butterfly (once put a pan of cinnamon rolls into the dryer AFTER the laundry was finished and taken out. Leftover Dryer heat raised those buns soooooooo nicely--yes I DID put them on the tennis shoe rack )

If you haven't switched it on, you could also try immersing in in alcohol (from the pharmacy, not the drinking kind). will speed up getting the moisture off the bits inside, and will evaporate off faster than water.

First post for me this. been lurking for a couple of weeks and planning on doing a patchwork/quilting course starting in september. thought i'd see what i'm getting myself into! so far it looks like it'll be another compulsive/obsessive thingy that I'll land up spending loads of money on!!!

Welcome Judy! No more lurking ... more fun to participate here!

Thanks for the info. We let it dry since yesterday am ... DH dissembled it to dry further. This is a kill it or cure it approach I guess. From now on I will take the junk phone outside!

I have been called a smart a** so much, I answer to it as readily as "Mama, where did you put the .......?". I also answer to my sisters' names. My little mom always started at the beginning when she was calling us and it took a while to get to "Polly". Butterfly's notion of letting the rolls rise in the dryer is pretty neat. I'll just have to try that. Polly

I answer to my sisters' names, too. People always get our names confused--maybe because all three of our names start with "G".

I also think that Butterfly had a good idea to let rolls rise in the dryer.

Reminds me of the news story about some weekend fishermen (In San Francisco's bay?) a year or so ago. Their boat sprung a leak and became unseaworthy. After exhausting their flares and other SOS items, one of the men remembered his cell phone, still in his shirt pocket. He took it out, got a dial tone, and called 9-1-1. The Coast Guard picked them up.

Nell on dry land.

Haven't enrolled yet, but keeping an eye on the numbers. unfortunately I have an elderly frail parent, and I can't commit myself too far in advance to anything that going to keep me away from home for as long as 3 hours. I'm in winter now though, so no summer break - just miserable wind! I do like to keep myself occupied though :)

Just to say Hullo and welcome, Lesley. Hope you enjoy yourself round here. I should get all your housework, spring cleaning, baking, gardening, decorating, whatever done before September; because after that there may never be another opportunity!

You don't have to spend *loads* of money, though! . In article , Lesley Cleaton writes

I washed the remote control with the sheets. I went through the dryer too. Before this it seemed it was on its way out. After the bath, it worked again. Some of the buttons did not work anymore and after they did. Funny.
