OT: QI & House moving etc

OK, there is no stress in this house - that's what I keep telling myself....

Today, has been probably one of the most interesting days that I've had for a while. The local water company is checking all the septic tanks in the area and although we are renting it was checked here. Whilst talking to the inspector, he asked if we were the people buying the house across the valley, we said yes, to which he replied OH. After more discussion, he had inspected there last week and there was no septic tank! The people that we are buying from thought that there was, so are equally as stunned as we are. We are meant to be signing, handing over money etc tomorrow, and now we have to negotiate who pays what. At the moment the house is considered inhabitable, on health grounds, but fortunately we have a campervan, so toilet and showers are not a problem. So we await to find out how much extra we may need to find..... As usual with house buying all our money appears to be accounted for, so I had better buy a lottery ticket tomorrow!!!!

QI also decided to scare us as well, because we brought down boxes from the attic today and little did we realise that inside was a packet of mice poison, so guess what, our nosy little darling decided to eat some. So emergency visit to vet for vit K injection and a months supply of vit K tablets this evening, cause after all there is no stress here! I hate having poison around, but where we are living at the moment, although we have those electric blippers that are meant to deter mice and rodents, they don't always work, so we kept it in the attic away from the cats and blippers in the rest of the house. At the new house, there won't be any poison and they will have the run of the house including the attic.

At least with all the excitement of the QI, it did take my mind off the septic tank :S)

Thanks also for the prayers and hugs for my friend.

Okay, Janner, what's life without a few "interesting" blips thrown in for good measure? ;) Good luck -- I hope the seller has to pay for the septic tank and that the QI is fine now. :)

Oh my gosh - we'll all be waiting with baited breath to hear the outcome of the septic tank situation. How can that be? It sounds like an April Fool's Joke! I hope it is & you won't have anything to worry about.

Oh my. I don't often put on my 'PollyAnna hat" but I'm just so glad that you know about the septic tank before moving day. Wouldn't that be a kick in the head to move in and discover that you couldn't flush or bathe? Janner, with all the challenges you have overcome, installing a septic tank is not even on the scale. We wish you well and are so proud of you. Polly

Good lord! Didn't this lack show up on the survey?

And if the house has no tank, where's all the waste going NOW, and who is liable to clean that mess up? Not you, obviously...

Best thoughts for a quick and easy solution that costs you nothing.

Oh Good grief! If this was in a book, one would scoff and think 'who thought up that ridiculous scenario .... ....'

At least no-one has ever said that moving house was stress free, easy, straightforward ... ... (You're going to remember this one in all its gruesome detail).

Hope the kitty will be OK in a few days; and that you get the liability issue sorted soonest. . In message , Janner writes

I feel a bit stunned myself -what were the current occupants doing, did it work, and didn't they notice anything.....odd? The mind boggles. Sorry about your inquisitive kitty, hope there are no lasting effects!

While I'm glad your life is not bor>OK, there is no stress in this house - that's what I keep telling myself.... >

Hmmm. Have to wonder how the house was sold before with no septic tank. Of course, if the current tenants have been there for awhile perhaps the laws have changed in the meantime. Yikes! This is probably a dumb question, but there's no way the inspector has just missed it, is there? Like maybe it is supposed to be in one location, but is actually in another?

So glad your kitty is going to be okay!

wheres the 'waste' go if there is no septic tank and no connection to a mains sewerage line? if there is no tank, how the hell did it ever pass inspection or be habitable up to this point? if the house is inhabitable, how can it be sold like that without the buyer being aware in advance? theres gotta be some regulation that covers this.
