If I were ever to go on one of these retreats it would have to be at a full service hotel where I could have my own room. It would also help if the crop space was open 24 hours a day since I never sleep for more than 2 or 3 hours at a time.

It reminds me of the cabins my friends and I would rent to go skiing. $240 divided by 10 makes it really reasonably priced per night. First to cabin when we went got to pick their room.

I have to say that when I went to the barn retreat I wasn't crazy about having to share a room, but it was with a scrapping friend, we had our own beds and it wasn't bad at all. We were so tired we only went to our rooms to sleep. Head hit the pillow and we conked out. The crop room was open 24 hours. There were some who stayed up late and got up late... me on California time and some who were up early. Seemed like there was someone in the crop room all the time. I wouldn't let having your own room discourage you from considering going to a scrap retreat. We had a lot of fun.

There are retreat weekends every couple of months about 90 minutes from here. It would be perfect for me as it is held at the Embassy Suites so I could have my own room. The problem is I don't want to go by myself (I have only been to 1 crop and the people there were unfriendly and cliquish and I had a horrible time) but everyone around here says they either can't afford it or they can't leave their husbands home with the children for a weekend. My friends, who like myself, do not have to ask their husbands permission as to whether it would be alright for them to breathe are not scrappers.

Chrissy, I am glad you like the link. there are other dedicated scrapbooking retreats as well and some have scrapbooking stores inside of them as well! (I posted the link btw)

Now on the direction this string has become:

You are assuming that the "scrap room" is not 25 hours. You are LIVING in the house... no one else is, you have the scrap room, you have the kitchen, you have the bathrooms,

AND

You are assuming that every bed is either in the same room or several in each room. And that the every bed, every sleeping bag and all the sleeping bags people could bring would be full.

I believe and assume, though I have not spoken to the folks running Scrapbook House, that it works like the other dedicated sb retreats I've been to. I know you pay per person so I may be wrong, but I would think that the room distribution would be based on the number of people in your group.

Regardless of whether or not they except everyone for the night that requests and is willing to pay (meaning other groups, other people) I doubt that every bed would be filled every night and so people who really need a single room would be able to have... IE sleep apnea or roommate snores and keeps you awake, etc.

I for one would be happy to share a room and I think that 50% of people would as well.

If you want to plan your vacation as a scrapbooking retreat, obviously you would begin planning based on the retreats that are out there and find the one ideal for you and your needs :)

Lynne,

Find more friends! :)

(I have very few so I am one to talk. Sounds like you actually have more friends than me, but I agree it is always more fun to retreat with a friend.

I wasn't able to be active on NG. Do we still have "retreats/meetups" annually? I really got to save $ to meet ya'll :) That's a solution for retreating with friends :)

I am actually going to a retreat next weekend and am certainly keeping busy getting everything organized that I believe I will need (dedicated embellishments (instead of my entire scraproom!)... will also be taking my new Cricut I bought from Dorothy... gonna test it out and share with friends and really get into it :)

I'm in the same boat as you. Friends can't afford to go and I don't want to go by myself. I've found exactly as you do that if I'm by myself groups of gals are so unfriendly and cliquish. I wonder sometimes why some women treat other women so unkind. On the few occasions I've gone to crops with a friend or two we welcome who ever is at our table into the group and always make them feel welcome and a part of our group. The only way it should be. Although a couple times I think the gal wished we were a little more stand offish. We're just there to have fun and meet new people.

We haven't had another retreat planned. Although you and I being on the west coast could certainly plan something. ;)

I'm hoping to put another RCS Crop together for 2009 so start saving your pennies. I am thinking a cruise leaving from Tampa and here is why!

Tampa has one of the best airports in the country and the cost to fly here is usually very affordable.

There are at least 16 LSS in a 2 hour radius and at least 4 of the best ones are within 20-30 minutes from the port area. So if you want to extend your cruise for us to have a land portion, I can arrange for some awesome scraptime!

There are some cheap cruises out of here and I would get us a group rate with a specific meetingroom just for us to crop in.

I "might" even be able to get us a surprise class from someone who is a friend of mine and is already doing the "BIG" cruise classes. She is really terrific.

Doing it in 2009 allows you guys to have your friends join RCS and become "regular members" before then. The cruise would be in March.

I'll let you know what I can come up with at the chat tomorrow, I have someone working on the details!

P.S. I'll be posting something about this in my blog and in a separate thread later.

Looks very nice and at $240 a night, once you split it up among 10 people it's not bad. I like the idea of no phone. LOL
