[SOLVED] Featherweight help

I've been looking at Featherweight 221 machines on eBay and there seems to be a wide array of pricing. Can someone tell me what I should look for in order to get a good one. Hate to spend a few hundred $ for something I can't use... TIA

The thing to watch carefully is who is selling the FW. Some sellers are 100% reliable, others will take your money and send you junk, or nothing at all. If you can find someone listing who is close enough to you to actually see and use the machine before you bid, that would help. That's probably a long-shot, though.

One thing you could do is to look at the seller's feedback, and click on all recent auctions to see what they sold, and what the buyer had to say.

A very reliable source of FW machines is

The first thing I did was to read up on them. The more you know, the better of a decision you can make about it's condition and how much you are willing to spend on a particular one.

Now, as to what to look for in an eBay FW seller, that's another story altogether.....

Why not check out the local sewing machine shops first. Then you can try it, have dealer support etc.

You can narrow down your choice of sellers drastically by only buying from those who offer a money back guarantee. Personally, I'd buy from Graham Forsdyke (

WOW! Lots of knowledge here. So glad I found this site. Have wanted a featherweight for a long time but always figured it cost too much for an "old" machine and was afraid I would get one that wouldn't work. Thanks for all the input. Will let you know what, if anything, I actually do about getting one...
