OT The Cat and the Fiddle

So DH has been learning violin for about 3 months plus a little. As usual he has made astounding progress in little time.

Thorncat, thinks he is a God. Normally she is not inclined to have much to do with him. When he starts playing that fiddle though, her ears perk up, she runs right over to him, she will twine around his ankles, if he is sitting she will put her front paws on his knee, and she will talk to him. She is very attentive to him when that fiddle comes out. On the downside, she will flinch and flatten her ears if he hits a sour note.

DH is kind of weirded out by it.

I would love to see that! I wonder how she'd react to hearing fiddle music on the tv or a cd. Do you know?

Now, isn't that funny? When my DS began playing the Vile Lyn (it sounds like that in the early stages, you must admit), our old cat, Buffy, would come and bite his legs in an effort to shut him up.

Maybe she's just a philistine when it comes to fine music, though?

Maybe she played the violin in a former life. Katie Mae loves music and will sit right down next to the speakers to listen to it.

DH thinks she was probably a cranky old violin teacher. He figures she is meowing things like "Your grip on the bow is just terrible!" and "what _are_ you doing with that thumb on the neck?" I've pointed out that if that were the case she would not be loving on him while he plays. I figure she was somebody like Paganini, or Shumsky, or Milstein, and is just happy to be near a violin again. He is a little horrified while being a little amused by that notion...

I put on the youtube playlist of Itzhak Perlman playing The Devil's Trill by Tartini. She hopped right up onto the arm of my chair and settled down to watch. She did not provide any commentary though. Curiously she completely ignores any Vanessa-Mae I might put on.
