OT: I am back

All is well in TX. We were lucky! I think the top wind gust at my house were around 75 mph. I live in a very wooded area and I am very glad we boarded up the windows. We found several big tree limbs next to the boarded windows. Also the boards were indented in... eeck! We haven't heard if the storm surge flooded DH sister's house. They were trying to get back this morning.

The worst of the storm was the evacuation of all the people. I live on an evacuation route (I-45 around the Woodlands). There still isn't gas and food places open. Luckly, I stocked up for college football season a couple of weeks ago. We had plently of food but if things do not get back to normal we will be eating some weird combinations.

We only lost power a couple of times for short periods. The bad thing was that when we lose power it sets off our internal house alarm. Boy, the dogs DO NOT like that. We spent most of the night trying to keep them calm.

All in all we are a lucky bunch. Now, I hopefully we can help out the ones that were affect more seriously by the storm.

Now, I think I am going to scrapbook and use some more of my stash...

Welcome back home too!! I am so happy to hear you got home safe and with nothing major wrong. I have some good friends in Winnie, near Port Arthur that I can not get ahold of.

I think it was such a blessing that it weakened and turned away from the heavily populated places. It sure could have been another Katrina and with all the refineries there, it would have been BAD!!

You take care Tammy nad don't work too hard. And with no gas, you have no excuse not to stay home and craft something!!!

Tammy, very glad that things turned out well. We were watching the seemingly endless line of cars on CNN! That must have been tough!

Tammy...so glad to hear that you were relatively unscathed by Hurricane Rita. I guess that you must be feeling very lucky that it was not as bad as they had estimated.

Take care, Marilyn

I am just dreading everyone returning... I hope people follow the schedule this time around. They have it broken up into zip codes/areas to return at certain times. Tomorrow on the way to work might be an extremely daunting drive. The problem is we still don't have gas at most gas stations so if people don't have enough gas they will back up the freeway. We will see what happens. The roads were extremely light today. I bet most people do not want to make the drive back any time soon. I know I wouldn't want too!

Thanks everyone! I am truely greatful and saying my prayers that we were spared the force of this storm.

Dave - I heard that the phone and electrical lines to Winnie and Port Arthur were down. That was this morning though. Good luck with reaching them. The phone lines haven't been reliable since Wednesday so just keep trying.
