OT--car trouble, stuck in Midland, TX, HELP anyone???

howdy from Midland, TX. Pati and I drove from Houston yesterday, car was ok til just as we pulled into Fort Stockton last night. the oil light flickered just a wee bit so thot ok, we can add oil in the morning, too late to fiddle with it at that late hour. stayed the night there, then car started up this morning ok and we were heading to get gas and oil and then breakfast. about 2 blocks later the car falters, we pulled over and it died. called AAA, towed a blcok to garage. try starting the car, oops, guy says engine has froze and we need a new engine. only Saturn place is in Midland. so we called AAA again and got towed here to Midland, Tx, here they agreed it needs a new engine but not sure if that will be one or two days to get it, install it and test it. so here we sit, tired, hungry, just stuck. is there anyone on RCTQ in this area at all whos got a spare bit of floor we can crash on? got any rellies in the area who are kind and would like to show us some of that good old TEXAS hospitality? i'm sitting in the Saturn Dealership here fwiw, iach....phone

432-520-5866 or Pati's cell phone # if its got any battery left on it still is 480 381 1399. hope some kind person out there reads this and can help two poor exhausted quilters. i'm thinking calling the Dealership is best, just ask for Pati...they know her name, tell them the ladies waiting to get in the waiting area lounge room. :)) big old tired hugz from Midland, TX. jeanne

OHHhh Nooooo. My relatives are too far away to help out. Not the best part of the country for a breakdown. A new engine???? I hope something works out. I'll be awaiting for your book about your adventures to come out when you get home Jeanne. (Notice I said "when", not "if".) Good luck! KJ

How dreadfully awful for you both! I am so sorry this has happened.

Have been wondering when I would hear from you that you were back in Phoenix safe and sound and just had a gut feeling that things weren't going the way they should. I knew it hadn't been long enough for you to be there yet.....but just had a nasty gut feeling.

Obviously not much I can offer in the way of assistance from here and I don't know anyone in Midland - will keep you both in thoughts and prayers for a quick solution to these troubles!

Hugs, Tina

Howdy!

Actually, Midland's a pretty good place to stay over. The locals are friendly, there's plenty to see (lots of oil money keeps things growing and selling), and this is a great time weather-wise. No family there, now, but my in-laws lived out there for years. The Quilting Patch is at 3323 N Midland Dr # 110. or it may be called Rachael's Fabrics & Quilting now, don't remember. Get tired of Midland, hitch a thumb over to Odessa (accent the "O"), right next door. More friendly faces: Betty's Bobbin Box, 2734 Grandview Ave., Odessa; (432) 550-0093 Needle Nook, 3211 W. Wadley #16B, Midland; (432) 694-9331

Btw, I've removed your phone numbers from this post. Btw part2: the Midland airport has a shuttle plane to El Paso where you can get a plane to the west coast. Greyhound travels thru' there, too, as does Amtrak--but I'm not sure it stops in Midland/Odessa. Hugs to Pati--car troubles are a booger!

Good luck! Bloom where you're planted.

No, Amtrak doesn't stop in Midland. El Paso would probably be the closest spot to hop on. (Unless she hops on a freight train. Jeanne the hobo!)

Jeanne - what a predicament - can you not get in touch with the nearest police station, I know over here in uk they would help two ladies out in such a situation. Both Jess and myself were chatting this afternoon saying how we hadn,t heard sight nor sound from you. Maybe worth a try what I suggested!

Don't put past anything when it comes to Jeanee. I learned that Friday and Saturday. Her and I hung out all day, both days. I can't recall having that much fun in years!

Has anyone heard from Pati or Jeanne? Does anyone have any new information?

I know I have not heard anything, and I am a bit concerned. It is SO stressful having serious car repairs while on a road trip. I do hope they are just enjoying a few days of down time.

I haven't heard anything yet, which concerns me, but only a little. Jeanne is nothing, if not resourceful, and Pati strikes me as a smart cookie, too. I'm sure they'll be ok.

Having had the privilege of meeting both of them (Jeanne stayed with us on her last trip to the US and Pati and I spent the afternoon together when we first came here) I'm not worried YET. They said it would take 2 days for the engine to get there--and I figure one more to get it rarin to go. Tomorrow, I will start worrying.

Butterfly ( I don't have either one's number so I can't call and check on em : (
