What?!? I haven't even made the dish towels I was asking about weeks ago...
YAY!!!!!!!! Now you can come over and do mine. ;) The fabric is practically brand new!! Only 3 years old now I think. Cashmere/wool. I haven't found the Perfect design yet. lol

---very proud of you indeed! What a good job.
I don't hang about, you know!
Some projects are just nice and quick and easy, and some are slow... This was a quickie!
Here are some suggestions:
Did a quickie project myself at the weekend. Decided I was tired of my (few) church clothes, so got 4 yards of an inexpensive tweed, pink warp, black weft, of wool/rayon/poly at $5 a yard. Washed it very successfully. Also got a yard of shiny polyester blouse fabric in a sort of purply print to use as lining.
Made up a fast skirt - stitch two centre back seams, join lining to skirt, elastic waist, all done. Plus a ruana - 2.5 yds fabric, slash it up the center to the half way mark. Finally, and what took the longest, cut off all the selveges and ran a machine stitch all the way round, then sat there Sat night (while entertaining company) fringing everything. Skirt hem and all ruana edges.
Came out very successfully, and was much admired at the church coffee hour on Sunday.

Oh, Kate, thanks for posting all these -- they all look reasonably easy to make (if I can find them in my size, that is). I am trying to find an easy-to-make pattern for a coat-type thing to wear at home when I work late nights so I can keep the thermistat down and not shiver too much, and I'm so sick of buying jackets and having something go wrong with them immediately that I've also been thinking of making jackets instead of buying them, too, but I just hardly have any time or concentration for sewing these days (except by proxy), so it has to be REALLY simple. Then they will also have to take their place in line behind all the other projects I don't have the time or concentration to do either.
For indoors at home and simple, try polar fleece, and one or two of these:
Plus size:
I've never used one, but I'm tempted.
Good grief! When I was teaching and organizing this sort of thing it took WEEKS! And notices went out at the start of term, in the monthly bulletin to parents, and as a special notice that week, with tickets being touted all over for about a fortnight beforehand. That's just poor and unprofessional planning.
Hiding under the stash! ;)
No probs. I had time to look and recently did a big jacket search for a customer, so I had an idea of what was out there.
OOH!! Kate thank you so much!! I really like this one
So you know where I will be today while they are at school! lol Will post pics when I can.
Thanks again Kate. I really appreciate that!!

Phooey, the Kwik Sew ones didn't come across with pattern numbers!
I keep looking at the MacPhee Art Coature pattern and wondering if I want to try that one, but I'm afraid I'd look like a billboard wearing it. Also, the Parkover pattern (I found both patterns at fabric.com) looks enticing but doesn't come in the "extra-wide load" sizing that I need, and so I just look at it and wonder how I could adapt a pattern I already have to do that. I have looked at several ruana-type patterns, but I don't think the unfastened-at-the-sides thing would work when I was sitting down. I have also looked at some things that fasten together to make a walking sleeping bag type of thing and then unfasten to make a comforter, which would be a good thing because it could be a sofa throw when I wasn't wearing it. And I've thought about making a couch cozy from a pattern I got a while back when I made some for gifts (it's like a baby bunting but with holes for your feet to come out) but I don't think I want that type of thing.
I took a small remnant length of Polarfleece -- something like a yard and a quarter -- and make a quick-and-dirty jacket-length poncho-y type thing that that I wear over my polarfleece jacket and that keeps my upper torso pretty warm, but my legs and feet freeze. (I have a low basal metabolic rate)
Well, if I just dally about it long enough it will start warming up and I won't have to worry about it.
I know what you mean about the planning... It's crazy. Everything "extra" seems to happen this way. Now, don't get me wrong, overall I am THRILLED with the school system here. Academics are top notch and they know what to do with kids who can work above grade average. Even push them to work above grade level. It's amazing and definitely not what I was used to in the old school system. However, anything outside of the classroom seems to happen this way. *sigh* I called school the other day to see when the report cards were coming home. The answer was that they would be mailed out "either Thursday or Friday. We're not sure which day." Okey-dokey.... And I would LOVE it if there was a monthly newsletter. Part of the lack of that is budgetary in nature. The teachers are encouraged to use as little paper as possible because, like all public school corporations, there is a lack of funds.
But I am happy to report that I am the Queen this evening. Had to go to Wal-mart this afternoon for some groceries. Cruised through the fabric dept. Y'know, because I was there alone. LOL Found some feather trim that's browns, creams and black. FEATHERS!!!! Herself was so pleased when she came home and her skirt was finished. I will be finishing up the top tomorrow morning. Had reached the "crossed eyed" stage earlier, so it was time to stop. The skirt is just a straight knee length number with elastic waist. The feathers peek out from the hem. I explained that this would make the skirt a wear very infrequently, and dry clean piece. She was fine with that just because it will look so darned nifty! ;)
Right now, I'm just basking in the glow of being "the coolest Mom EVER!!!" ;)

Congratulations on being "The coolest Mom EVER." Sharon. I know she will look smashing. Emily
Serendipity! And the skirt does sound splendid.

That hits us as well, but paper for things like this is earned by FOBS: Friends of Bredgar School, the parents organization. They raise thousands every year for incidentals like this and for non-essential equipment. As a result of years of this and good budget management, we have a very well equipped school. One reason I want James to go on to the Grammar school is that they too are good at the support stuff. The parent's association and the Old Boys society work hard to raise funds for this, and the Old Boy recently replaced one of the school's mini buses with a grand new one.
Yay! Mum's Rule! Mum's Rock! Sounds verrrry nifty!
Good feeling, innit. :)
Hooray for you!! Wonderful look, and you deserve to be the world's greatest Mom!! It sounds beautiful................post a pic!!
