Repairing a coat

At a recent, frigid football game, I brushed up against a propane heater in my favorite, almost new, long coat. It now has a half-circle burned area (it's washable, so must be polyester) on the lower front. I'm thinking of making some decorative leaves, or curly-queus to applique over the damaged area and maybe a small applique on the upper part of the coat to make it look like they all belong there. I found some micro-suede knitted material almost the same color as the collar and cuffs. It doesn't ravel, so I thought I'd use a little basting spray to hold the shapes on and then machine stitch around them. Does anyone have any other ideas? I really love this coat and don't want to throw it out.

Unless you have an embroidery machine, I'd say go for the Appliqué.I'd try them out first by pinning them on, and see what kind of arraignment suits your eye. I did that on a favorite sweat shirt that had bleach spots on it. I have I used fabric that was rocks, sand and water. It's meant for landscape quilts. One of my friends saw it and wanted to know where I bought it. when I told her the story as to why it 's the way it is she wanted to know if I'd do one for her. I told her only if she got bleach spots on her shirt. Juno

Juno !!! You took the words out of my keyboard !!! I have done my share od repairing , i am all for the applique repairs !!! They add strength and warmth to a `damaged part`... I have gone as far as moving appliqued parts from clothing item to clothing item ... mirjam

That's exactly what I did to a nice shirt a few years ago. I went to a family get-together, and a niece gave me her baby to hold. Without realizing she had fed him chocolate just before handing him over; I put him on my shoulder and got a bad a chocolate smear on it. It's pink, white & gray stripe; I appliqued a small design on the shoulder as well as 2-3 other strategically places. Everytime I wear it, I get lots of compliments. Emily

No, that sounds good. :) My sis did a similar things with embroidered fruit aplpliques when she splashed bleach on a skirt and it burned little holes in it. Looks great - much better than plain! :D
