guitar strap pattern?

Hi all ~ I've just bought a new guitar, and am having difficulty finding a strap I really like for it. So, I thought I'd just make one myself. The problem is, I don't have a pattern (though I more or less know how they go together, from studying other straps).

I wonder if anyone could recommend a source for a guitar strap pattern?

Thanks! all best, Denise

No luck on a pattern per se. Perhaps you can use a ready made one as your guide or use the following as a guide:

I made my own, I used thick webbing cut to a point at both ends and sealed with a lighter and then punched a hole through the points and hand stitched around it. Voila, new strap!

You'll need hardware. Take an old strap apart, copy its design, and use its clips and whazzijiggies.

Hi Karen,

That's a good idea, using an old strap as a pattern. I just may do that.

There really isn't much hardware needed on a strap. Many straps have a slide (metal or plastic), so the strap length can be adjusted; others are hardware-less & just have slots that the leather ends slide through for adjustment.

I don't know which kind I want to make, at this point I'm looking for ideas & inspiration (in addition to a pattern)!

Thanks again ~

cheers ~ Denise

It's a bit rough and ready, but it's so cheap that when it starts to fall apart it can just be replaced. I used to customise them with fabric paints, but I always used to give them away at gigs. They're pretty tough, mine used to hold my bass happily, a seam sealer helps around the holes as well as stitching them.

When I was playing mandolin, I made several straps. You need D-rings or a buckle or something to make it adjustable. I installed a strap peg and the other end went around the neck.
