Where is my facing?

So, I finally made up my mind in deciding between the PatternMaster software and a new machine, and the software won. Tried it out, made the sloper for my wife (Jennifer) and it turned out to fit exactly. This was a major milestone, as she claims that nothing has *ever* fit perfectly since junior high. :-/ So on to the first real project, a cotton flannel nightgown.

She had a candidate garment to base the design off of, a pretty (and modest, how'd *that* happen) version from Vicky Secret that I had to modify when she first got due to the neckline being too wide. A very straight forward design; a basic sheath with wide straps that attach to a puffed sleeve.

I printed out the pattern, pasted it together and cut it all out, then went through the exercise of visualizing how it would go together. That's when I butted my head on a stump. I realized that the neckline is apparently not faced.

In all the projects I have done, either there is a collar, or the neck opening attaches to a lining, or there is a facing. There isn't even a seam allowance shown for a facing. Does this make sense? What would I do with the raw edge?

Wide satin ribbon overlapping the edge? Lace? Self fabric binding? Is there a yoke? A silky/soft lining material of like pattern shape attached to the yokes reverse.

Any other thoughts out there? AK in PA

Oh, now there's an idea! And, the lace would dress things up nicely.

Did you think to check the next page of the pattern? I sometimes think I haven't got it all, then I realise I didn't open the next window. Things like collars and cuffs frequently hide there.

Thanks for the reply. I did not think to check there, but going back and doing so I find no facing. Page one has front and back torso, the hem ruffle and straps whilst page two has the sleeve.

I'll just go with finishing the edge by attaching the lace. I found some that I like.

Have you reported this to the Wild Ginger people? They have a forum, accessible through the home page, where we can discuss patterns, report problems and get help, etc. They are usually very good at troubleshooting.

The other thing is, did you ASK it to make facings patterns? It won't if you don't. :)

I have not, and you are quite right I should. As Kate pointed out, I may be simply not telling the program to produce the thing for which I'm searching!
