Axminster Chuck With Odonnel Jaws - For turning small boxes

I was looking for a good chuck to do small boxes (1 - 2 inch tennon). Some of the chucks I had seen recommended aren't around anymore. I like the idea of longer jaws that extend the box away from the chuck for easier access. Does anyone have experience with the Axminster chuck with Odonnel Jaws? Another strong candidate was the vicmarc 100 with the long jaws that look similar to Odonnel Jaws. Anyone have any experience with the Vicmarc 100 with the Long jaws? Thanks.

I have the Axminster with O'Donnel jaws. Works great and when I use it for bowls it is the most accurate chuck for reverse chucking for hollowing I have ever used. We use one in our turning club and nearly all the demonstrators remark on its accuracy. Works just as well on small boxes and makes it easy to get at the back because of the long jaws.

I have an Axeminister, but not the Odonnel jaws. However, my favorite is the PennState Barricuda4, which comes with four sets of jaws two of which are of the long nosed variety. At $219.00 with free shipping, is not a bad deal. Then to, it is sometimes on sale, which for anyone married to a Downeaster Scot for 45 years is a wonderful thing, ;-)

I have 4 Axminster chucks - 1 small and 3 precision. I'm sure that you will find them wonderful. I have the O'Donnel jaws and they are just the ticket for boxes and when you need to work close to the spindle. I can't say enough good about my Axminster chucks. My only gripe is that they have discontinued the precision chuck and I would like to have one more body. I shouldn't have waited!
