chinese chews

My Aunt used to make what she called chinese chews, or sometimes they called them Charleston Chews. I've not been able to find the recipe. All the "chinese chews" I've found on the net do not use chocolate. Her recipe used chocolate as well as dates and nuts. They were heavenly!

Anyone have a recipe?

Thanks, Chris

Why not just add some chocolate chips to a recipe you like from the net?

They are in another state and I don't have their address. We were not close unfortunately.

I think perhaps I could try adding some semi sweet morsels but am not sure how much extra sugar I would need to add. I guess I could just test the mixture to make sure it was sweet enough. This is not for me. My diet won't allow me such luxuries. :(

Though this is a little healthier than some sweets in that it includes a lot of dried dates and walnuts, both of which of very good for you. I may even substitue sucanet for the white sugar.

Try it with no added sugar, and the semi-sweet morsels. I prefer my chocolate on the bitter side...

Don't change the recipe because you want to add some chocolate. If anything, since the semi-sweet chocolate has sugar in it, you would reduce the sugar.

My wife is Chinese, she hasn't heard of this desert. However, I googled up the following (see recipe 2) which, I suspect has been 'Westernised'.
